GOA-TRANCE IN QATAR?

Would like to know if there are people familiar with the type of genre of trance music here in Qatar. As it is very popular in Europe, Turkey, Australia, Canada and South & North America. Not to be confused or associated with commercial trance or mainstream trance(ex: Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, etc) or House music. It is very distinct form of music almost a fusion from the east with the west combining elements of dance music.

It has much more meaning as it not only is used as a form of recreational dance but also alters the state of mind connecting with the nature and elements of life to get to a spiritual level almost similar concept used in practice of Yoga.

considering its evolution and history only a handful can understand this music, those who try to find a meaning within any form of music.

hope to know if any of those live in Qatar.....

I'm listening to the album:

The Last Days of Gravity - by Younger Brother

...and it reminded me of this thread from a while back, so I had to dig up the conversation..and see if you might know this album. Not exactly "Goa" - but probably a close branch...

Anyways - this album is pretty amazing....I think folks might enjoy it. The cover art for the album is done by Storm Thorgerson (He designed Pink Floyd's artwork). So..it's cool, before you ever even give it a listen!

The music is really chill..almost ambient at times. Would go great with Sheesha..;-)

Shpongle is a music group. (A really good music group).

I think the person looking for Goa-Trance would like Shpongle...

There are no hippies in Qatar!

Or people that would volunteer to dance to trance and get arrested for being possessed by Baba Mangalanand's shaytans!

Its cool, you made a mistake, no biggie! i was referring to Goatrance and not techno but ther's no issue. glad to clear the air and provide any additional info on Goatrance if you like...

thank you for clarifying, but it was not my own idea or words. the connection of Yoga and Goa-trance was stated by Goa Gil(a American musician/composer/producer who started Goa trance and also regarded as man behind it all)

the selling I was referring to was trying to relate Yoga to dancing to techno..

im not trying to sell anything nor am i trying to debate over this issue, its your personal opinion, all i was trying to do is enlighten people on the right concept, if u have chosen the other so be it. i was trying to shed more light and focus on the music itself, nothing more nothing less.

if u dont practice Yoga then fine but dont abuse it by calling it non-sence as it is definately something you have not much knowledge of anyways.

as for the rest of your info, i appreciate and thank you once again for your kind words.

Steve, drugs have been fun since the dawn of mankind, if your hoping for that to change I wouldnt hold your breath.

And as for this spiritual, yoga-esque nonsense your selling, who are you trying to kid man? The music is a 'fusion' of synthesized sounds, its all electronic and doesnt exactly incorporate all the 'eastern and western' influences as you put it, though it can sometimes overload your ears as if you were trying to listen to every sound in the world at the same time.

Anyway, Im sure that there are some people who enjoy it and from what I understand there is a Tiesto beach party that will be held at the end of the month, so to answer your question, yes, some people probably do.

genuine music lovers would not need drugs. once the people r ther and the the speakers r out loud, u wouldnt need more than tht, maybe a few drinks, but the point is that the music is there.

thts what i noticed bout Qatar more people spend their time, money and energy on intoxicants of all sorts, people r frustrated and want to get wasted once the weekend approaches. i dont blame them but surely in time maybe years, this could change.....i just hope..

Whatever you would like to call it as its not a topic of debate, as it does have many sub-genres so everyone is entitled to their own choice.

if we have so many people that like this music, why isnt there something done to get this music to everyone out here. i know 2 dj's who have been playing this music for quite a while but r dormant here in Qatar, would like to know if there could be an opportunity to share this music live and have fun experience.

all inputs welcome....
