Going out in Qatar
By DustypTRNC •
Hi everyone I am new to this forum so please forgive me for any mistakes.
My wife and I are looking at a move to Qatar. We currently live in North Cyprus where we run a Karaoke Disco and have a live band. We do it for fun so we are not expeting to make a living out of it but can anyone give me any information on venues where this sort of thing happens, do the locals like to sing as much as the Brits do, and is there anywhere live bands play?
I understand that the places to have a drink is limited but are there many places and have fun?
Having lived for 3 years in Cyprus, and now out in Qatar, I would definitely stay put in Cyprus....no question about it! And the north of the island is so beautiful!
Not that I know of, but if you're able to put a band together, maybe you can jam at one of the joints UK mentioned up there... or you can even try Irish if you're good ;-)
If you wanna jam, then I don't think you can expect any monetary payment... to begin with, it may be on the day the band has a day off... once you prove yourself, maybe you will get to jam more often ;-)
At the mo we have a band here in Cyprus. I play drums and my wife sings. Is there anywhere that hold jam nights?
I have been in the music scene since school, but unfortunately, it has taken a back seat since I came to Qatar.
I did get approached by many guys wanting to start/ join a group, after they heard me perform at a hotel, but as fate would have it, I don't seem to get the time with my traveling schedules :-(
It would be nice if you could start something when you got here. Trust me, it will do well!
hey is Garvey's open again?
The best you could get here to play some thing like this is the Doha Rugby Club or Garvey's.
If you thinking of making a living out of it then I am not sure this is the place for you.
But the above two venues may be able to accomodate you on a one off or regualr basis.
Colt you want bubble gum, come to me i have many in my pocket...:)
Colt45 you seem the man in the know. What about Qatar Idol's. See what talant you have out there?
oye Colt, it's men who were supposed to ask ladies out, not the other way around! :P
when are you taking me to Bubbles? :-P
Dusty, I don't know of any karaoke bars here.. but my absolute fave here is Bubbles on Two -- cozy ambience with nice music...
Colt, you do that, tink and I will support you all the way.. :)
I strum... rhythm and if i work hard, some lead ;-)
so ima write to the BIG GUNS to get me started on QLKG, with you as my deputy :-P... any female wanting to join up goes thru me and any male thru you ;-))
Hi Colt45
Do you play anything? May be we can start to ROCK Qatar.
No hindi, English only in the main forum (i don't sing hindi) :-P
oye tink, right on!! Colt, that's a good idea!! bring it on!
Maybe I should start "QLKG"... ???
the pinoys love to sing :-)... and some Indians too
There is live music at the Irish Harp at the Sheraton, that is the only place I like going to ;-)
wrong place for you :P .... not allowed to play in public areas :)
unfortunately the "live" music scene is kinda dead here... we did have a QL karaoke meet up last week, it was fun.
Maybe when you get here you can kick start something lively for us... I'm into the band scene too, but don't have a band here :-(
