Hello Dear QLs,

Just arrived from my vacation, my home is messy and the weather is awesome..

Sad that I wasn't here to witness the annual showers, national day parade & daily dose of bashing in QL.. but hope more to come (Showers)..

Wait, u mean to tell me that u do something new EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK for the rest of ur life!!! Pardon me for not believing that!!! It's just waaaaaay too far fetched!!! For one I've lived in ur country and know first hand the extent of things to do out there. As far as I'm concerned the list that I gave u should last a few weeks!!! "Unless ur retired, single and have a lot of money with no one to meet with"

About the Red Sea, there's not a single country on earth that has the BEST THERE IS TO DO of all activities and in one place, but the question is whether u would wanna live in Saudi, Israel or maybe Sudan to be able to go to ur best snorkeling spots....You simply cannot have the best of all worlds....More importantly, even when the best is in reach, one shouldn't ignore what's already at hand....The best place to gamble on earth is Vegas, but if u live in Reno u won't pass on gambling just cuz it's not ur no.1!!!

Yes I believe Qatar has a lot to offer, but only to those who r looking and have an open mind....when we were kinds we used to cry when a brother or a sister received a gift or candy and we didn't...and when we r given one too, we cry again and say NO I want the one he has, u can give HIM the one u gave me....let's not resort to that here, shall we???....everyone identifies with one place in their life, whether it's a home country/town or even just a favorite place....and no matter how hard u try no other place is gonna BECOME it cuz it's just a different place....STOP COMPARING AND MAKE THE MOST OF WHAT U HAVE....OTHERWISE IT'S U THAT'S TO BLAME...IT'S ALL ON U

After cutting through all the Qatari codswallop, I thank your list which is very interesting. But what happens in week 2?

@ PAC1960

You haven't answered my question and ur still beating around the bush....I personally love the fact that we have a lot of expats here cuz I grew up abroad and it puts me at ease, but I truly do not understand why anyone would willingly choose to live somewhere they hate??? At the end of the day, when u r in a room that smells bad and u don’t have to be there u simply walk out, when ur finger is on a hot candle or a lighter u move it away, why would anyone choose to subject themselves to what they consider to be a horrible way to live???

I know that whatever activities I list your gonna bash, and I know by listing them u will skip over my last question, so what the point of listing them??? But here r MY activities anyways just for the sake of everybody else reading this post

- Shisha gatherings with friends and family

- A nice dinner out with my wife

- Dessert trips/camping out

- Snorkeling/swimming/diving...many cities dont have a beach to go to....THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS ONE GIANT BEACH!!! mind u, our waters r actually blue as opposed to all the "brownish" beaches I've been to elsewhere....to the extent that my wife refuses to get in the water cuz it looks so filthy....never heard a complaint from her here

- An over-nighter fishing and relaxing on a yacht

- Dune bashing on ATV or a nice SUV

- Parasailing, water skiing, jet skiing

- I particularly enjoy my football "soccer" games

- Goin to a park for a picnic with a good supply of "Karak" tea

- Yes I do enjoy clubbing and do have my regular spots that I frequent

- Goin to the Race Tracks

- I do have friends who frequently go horse back riding

- Souq Waqif/Katara/the Pearl...even if it's for a walk

- A pool side BBQ when the weather is nice

- Shopping

- Movies

- Arabic Theater

- Visiting friends have enjoyed the Museums very much (Islamic Art, Modern Art, Arabic Art, etc)

- I most certainly enjoy the pay/savings...I have not lived in the type of luxury I have in Qatar ANYWHERE else

- I enjoy the fact that I can get anywhere in 20 mins or so with no subway to wait for, no parking to pay for, and no traffic to worry about (Yes Qatar's traffic can't really be considered a jam)

- I'm not a fan, but I do know ppl who like to go skating/bowling

- Not a good player, but meet my friends for a round of pool/billiards

Those r (((MY))) activities, I'm sure the other users can supply u with more....but my schedule is ALWAYS full that I have to turn down offers!!! If I'm gonna be honest with u, u just sound like a grumpy guy with no friends...Sorry if that's harsh, but u r sending out that vibe BIG TIME

Just clue me in.

What is there?

What are the saving graces?

I'm fascinated.

What's extreme or hateful about what I wrote??? It's human nature for one to have the desire to remove him/herself from any situation of oppression or discontent, ESPECIALLY if one has the power to do so....nothing defensive about that!!??? You have to admit, the fact that u find Qatar to be such a horrible place yet u willfully continue to live her has got to raise some eyebrows

If u truly do find Qatar to be Cultureless, boring, restrictive, u don't have to continue to subject urself to such living, and since u do have the power to leave one has to wonder...is it that u don't fully agree with what u said, so u found a reason to stay??? Or ur contradicting ur own ethics by staying against ur own free will!!!????

Why does it turn to words like 'hate'? I am asking what is there in Qatar. Culturally. Such vehement defensiveness is most illuminating. I find it rather amusing and intriguing. It would be good to know what it is that turns you to use such extreme words.

@PAC1960

u shouldn't feel so obligated to stay...if u hate it so much and it bothers u to be here, then don't let the door hit u on ur way out!!!!

Welcome back Targus. i've taken a minor leave of insanity but i'm back too lol.

I was a bit disappointed nothing happened on new years eve, but the lack of fireworks that day was surely compensated for during national day. hoooollleeeeeeeeeeee

Have u veen livin' in a Cocoon amigo???....Our country is running on the backs of culture and nothing else, A little too much culture if u ask me!!!! To think that it has no culture is beyond idiotic!!! There r a hole bunch of things that u can do here that ur whole continent CANNOT provide for many reasons, and VICE VERSA....Actually let me rephrase that, there r a whole bunch of things that EVERY COUNTRY ON EARTH can provide that u cannot find in other places....u just need to do one little thing to get to them and that's to GET OFF UR MIGHTY HORSE!!!!

Pardon my French buddy but ONLY a close minded fool can think and believe that there's only one way to do things in life and that is his....pop the bubble my friend and come out to the real world....but again seein' that u have lived closed minded "for so long" lookin' the world through binoculars, I guess it's kindda normal

Cheers amigo

You can imagine .. being in a brand new 'Land Cruiser of a colleague and taking pics of enthusiasts / crowd from the 'Moon Roof' and .. then being asked permission from Qatari boys to let them spray a fun stuff at our LC .. gave us a thrill which is unmatched ....

There are whole lot of stories to share ....

Every country has its own beauty - every single land has that special spark which lies in the atmosphere - waiting to be discovered by people who love it . People's idea of fun and comfort differ . Friends and family can make even the grimmest of lands beautiful . I've spend time here as well in two celebrated cities of India - I have learned to love each with its own beauty .

Qatar is very serene and it has a chaos free life style and a very welcoming feel to it . It would be such a hurtful statement to label it a cultural vacuum .

Dear Molten.

Where are you from that you find Qatar even remotely fun. The dark side of the Moon? Apart from friends-Qatar is a cultural vacuum with no saving graces. What is there 'to do'? Not watch or eat - actually 'do'?

Maybe in 1000 years it will have imported some culture and self-expression...till then...
