The dessert scene in Doha is diverse, multicultural, and vast. There is so much to choose from. There are definitely some desserts that are well-known from every corner of Qatar.
As part of our Foodie Month celebrations, here's QL's list of best dessert places around the country. Let us know in the comments section whether we've missed out on any places. How many of these 'sweet tooth joints' have you visited?
Red Velvet Cupcake at Sugar and Spice. Calling all Red Velvet fans! There are so many fabulous desserts at Sugar and Spice, but their Red Velvet cupcake is likely the best Red Velvet offering in Qatar. Again, fresh, never dry, and the cream on top is light and not too heavy.
Honey Cake at Chac'Late in Katara, this dessert has been highly recommended so many times that QL had to go out and try it personally – it was perfect! If you find yourself at Chac’Late try their Honey Cake first = perfection. This dessert is so popular that almost as soon as you say honey cake the other person will refer to Chac’Late.
Kanafa at Al Aker Sweets (multiple locations including Souq Wakra, Souq Waqif, Salwa Road, etc) is considered by many to be the best Kanafa in town. Kanafa is a traditional Arabic dessert with gooey cheese, shredded phyllo dough and loads of sweet syrup. Al Aker’s Kunafa is a mix of crunchy, gooey, and sweet in all the right proportions. Smells and tastes like buttery heaven. 15QR will get you a generous plate - enough to share!
Pistachio Macaron at Paul's is an extremely sweet, soft, and rich dessert. It’s a melt-in-your-mouth experience and likely the best Maracrons you’ll find outside of France.
The name explains it all. Sweet Temptations is next to Hubara restaurant inside The Sheraton Grand Doha. It garners a special mention of Um Ali, dedicated to all who love the Arabic dish. The café offers a good number of desserts and sweet snacks. Their cakes, tarts, macaroons, cookies are all sweet treats to the palate. A true connoisseur of Um Ali will be happy to spend the rest of the days right here (for dessert) to get the rich, creamy, sweet flavor of this delicacy.
‘All you need is love… and chocolate’. This sums up the experience at Dip n Dip Café. The eatery at the Pearl Qatar is a chocolate lover’s heaven. Their best touted delicacies are fettuccine crepe and profiteroles. You can indulge in a ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ fantasy at Dip n Dip and choose your favorite crepes, waffles and brownies, all smothered in scrumptious chocolate.
This famous café, Brioche Doree, is in Gulf Mall, usually attracting crowds to its tasty breakfast, and patisserie selection is not to be missed. We got a vote for its carrot cake among one of the best desserts in Doha. Try it out for yourself. Fancy something else, there are a lot of delightful options to choose from.
I could taste only "Pistachio Macaron at Paul's" and "Red Velvet Cupcake at Sugar and Spice. They are really delicious. Plan to get the energy boost with "Honey Cake at Chac'Late in Katara" this weekend.
