Hi,

Going to be moving to Qatar soon, just wondering if anyone knows if there is a social club that plays field hockey? If so, do they play on astro & is it easy to buy new equipment for hockey there?

Thanks,
Riy

Good Hockey News, the Qatar Hockey league is going to start after Ramadan with the Asian Game pitches at Al Rayyan expected to be made good over the next couple of weeks and they will start to water the pitches. The lights are still a while away. That means that we will play in the late afternoons.

With this been the case we need to organize ourselves.

1. Practice – We are starting to practice fitness on a Tuesday night starting at 7 pm the venue at the grassed area outside the airport.

2. Saturday scratch matches – we are playing a ‘scratch match’ each Saturday afternoon starting at 4:30pm and finishing when we lose the light. We are aiming to do some skills training @ 4 pm before the game.

3. Recruitment – We need to recruit players. Currently we have 13 players on the list. Given out side commitments etc, I believe we need a playing squad of 18 players particular considering that we will lose players at the end of the year due to work commitments. To start with we need a goalie and a quick forward.

4. We have decided to play with a dark blue top, gray shorts and dark blue socks.

This club will only be a success if everyone pitches in, so please get out to practice.

Any questions please contact me

If everything is starting again in september, I'm ready. My stick is still in the storage room for few months now..

I hope that the training hours will be more late in the evening...

If somebody has details, please...

Hi there,

so if you play indoors, do you use indoor sticks (and balls)?Or is it just normal outdoor hockey, but played on a smaller indoor astro pitch?

I assume you still meet at 6pm, despite ramadan.

Hope to see you next Tuesday!

true true, sticks are available for use during the sessions, its a bunch of fun, anybody interested in field hockey should come down. However it is much faster than the typical 11 a side outdorr thing. its indoor and 5 a side-

the store to buy the wooden sticks is called Sun And Sand sports on the third floor, next to the cinema (above carrefour) in city center

Hi everybody,

I'm in Qatar as from now 9 months, and I would like to enjoy once again with field hockey game.

I've read that there is a training starting on 12/09. Is this open to everybody ? Do we need to subscribe first ?

Thanks for your reply

If you are talking about Olympic Sports in the City Centre, I suspect that the choice will be much better in their main shop.

Turn left coming off Grand Hamad Boulevard travelling from the Corniche end as if going to the airport and it's on the right just before the traffic light on the "B" ring road.

You can buy a limited range of sticks from the city centre level 3 in the sports shop forget the name. Not the best sticks but it is a piece of wood.

look forward to catching you on the pitch.

yes field hockey is played here more socially than competitively. The season is finished until school starts again in September. yes you can purchase a limited range of sticks here but I haven't found shin guards. I understand that next season we will be able to play on the new astro pitch and that their will be a mini competition on a Friday afternoon. Look up the contact details on goolge under field hockey. Start again on 12 Sept @ 6 pm for training / run around on a Tuesday nights at Qatar International School.

They do a kids session starting at 4 or 5 pm which caters for the kids and new players

look forward to see you out, more the better.
