Hi there, moving to Qatar next week not sure where I will be staying until I get there.Just wondering are there many young Irish out there.I would be interested in any sports activities that go on during the week.Keeping myself occupied will keep me sane i hope!
Thanks very much for your info anoif1.I have heard about the crazy driving numerous times but I will probably have to see to believe...Also you will be glad to know it's raining non stop here at home!I suppose once you are living in Qatar you can't really complain about the rain when you get home.Enough people are at it as it is!
It will give you a chance to settle in and get used to the crazy driving here as the roads tend to be quieter in July and August. It tends to be over populated with men here in the summer as all the ladies leave. You should check out garveys club ( on salwa road) its usually a good place to have a drink and meet other people in the same boat.My other half will be spending quite a bit of time there over the summer as I go home to kerry next week
It is am easy place to settle into really a small town among the expat community. You'll be grand once you give the place a chance.
Thanks very much for the info and for the links. It seems like I have picked a very quiet time indeed.I think I would need time to adjust to the heat before I get too active anyway.I'm sure I will find out more in a few days when I get there than I have in the last few weeks here.
I will keep an eye out for any upcoming events anyway thanks!
There is a fairly active irish community here in Doha. There is an irish society (google search qatar irish society) and there is also a GAA club which trains at the Rugby Club on a tuesday night and take part in comps around the gulf (email [email protected]). They're currently on summer hiatus, but trainng starts again in Sept. The St Patrick's Day Ball is also one of the biggest events of the year here in Doha. The GAA play mostly football but my other half is a hurling man and he got into the football out here!!
You've picked a fairly quiet time to arrive, but the I.S have social evenings (usually sept sometime) as a get to know each other type affair!
Qatar's winter months are brimming with unmissable experiences, from the AFC Asian Cup 2023 to the World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024 and a variety of outdoor adventures and cultural delights.
