La Mer at Ritz Carlton

Hi - what is your experience, if at all, of La Mer? I want to take my husband for a special birthday (one that ends with a '0') which is a couple of months after we arrive. I've read that it's one of the best restaurants, with an amazing view. I understand that it will be pricey, but that's not a problem. I simply want the best - he's worth it!!

I've read them all and will store all the info for future dining - for now, I've booked at La Mer and have asked for the table with the best view - so hopefully will not be overlooking the construction site at The Pearl - it's a couple of months away yet so here's hoping. Thanks everyone for all their suggestions. As I said I shall store it all away for the future. My husband and I do love to eat out and where we live now it's either the pub ... or the pub!

My husband was taking me for a 'special' treat a few weeks ago and I asked on the 'socialising' thread where I should go.

We ended up going to La Mer, and I gave my comments about it there, but you may like to check the thread because there were numerous very good suggestions!

I will post it after this post (if you see what I mean lol)

Gotta find it and can't be bothered opening a new QL site.

I thought the Indian at the new Ramada was ok to good, but the Chinese was so so.

The British Head Chef I used to know at the Ramada left a few months ago and went to the Raffles Hotel in Singapore so I don't know who is in charge now. For the fancy prices they need someone good.

i would second that. i took my wife there for our anniversary, and everything was great.

the beef was some of the best i have had anywhere.

it's no more expensive that was a good restaurant in canada would cost.

One of my favourite resturants here. Food is excellent and the service is spot on. Not too fussy but just the right amount of attention. Finish with an irish coffee. Not just for the drink themselves, but they make it in front of you. (Well it always impresses me after a bottle of wine at the meal). The food is not too expensive but what can really drive up your bill here is the wine, so choose carefully....
