***because of poverty most of them unable to be qualified thats why more then (Spelling error it has to be THAN) half of eithopis(Spelling error ETHIOPIANS) are labour (spelling error change this to LABORS)

But trust me there is no fake engineering or bcs certificate and the professionals are well organised and structured. Even the labors they work as much as they can and that's what counts.

***Very cheap labours according to other nationalities.

Yes, but the rate is same as any other 3rd world nationalities.

***bad thing among them is lake of cleanliness.

Trust me they are clean... but artificial look is not acceptable by the society that's the problem, actually its not a problem but its what you are offered from God.

*** dont know any language except their own.

Me and my friends we do understand at least 3 languages. Even the labors will learn Arabic in a matter of weeks.

***I also met 1 eithopi who is marketing executive in real estate instead of labour..

Try a little bit more and you will find thousands of Engineers, Executives etc... not only in Qatar but in the middle east and the rest of the world.

Cheers Peace and Blessing...

GEOGRAPHY

Ethiopia is located in the Horn of Africa and is bordered on the north and northeast by Eritrea, on the east by Djibouti and Somalia, on the south by Kenya, and on the west and southwest by Sudan. The country has a high central plateau that varies from 1,800 to 3,000 meters (6,000 ft.-10,000 ft.) above sea level, with some mountains reaching 4,620 meters (15,158 ft.). Elevation is generally highest just before the point of descent to the Great Rift Valley, which splits the plateau diagonally. A number of rivers cross the plateau--notably the Blue Nile flowing from Lake Tana. The plateau gradually slopes to the lowlands of the Sudan on the west and the Somali-inhabited plains to the southeast.

The climate is temperate on the plateau and hot in the lowlands. At Addis Ababa, which ranges from 2,200 to 2,600 meters (7,000 ft.-8,500 ft.), maximum temperature is 26o C (80o F) and minimum 4o C (40o F). The weather is usually sunny and dry with the short (belg) rains occurring February-April and the big (meher) rains beginning in mid-June and ending in mid-September.

Ethiopia's population is highly diverse. Most of its people speak a Semitic or Cushitic language. The Oromo, Amhara, and Tigreans make up more than three-fourths of the population, but there are more than 77 different ethnic groups with their own distinct languages within Ethiopia. Some of these have as few as 10,000 members. In general, most of the Christians live in the highlands, while Muslims and adherents of traditional African religions tend to inhabit lowland regions. English is the most widely spoken foreign language and is taught in all secondary schools. Amharic is the official language

1)Some Ethiopian women (Surma) Wears a lip plate which teras the lips which Ethiopian men finds very charming.

But most outsiders find it disgusting.

2) During the dry season most of the water (about 70%) of the Nile is supplied by the blue Nile which originates from Lake Tana, ethiopia. But the Egyptians(Alibaba) the water for their own use and together with their former protectorate the Brits made some one sided agreement in which Ethiopia cannot build dams to harness their own water. Sad....sad case.

3) Lake Tana is believed to be the final resting place of the Arc of the covenent. This sacred arc supposedly contain the broken pieces of the 10 commandments original tablet, and the holy grail. A few crazy people are still wasting government money to organise expeditions to hunt for these artefacts!

Previously the great Christian Kingdom of Aksum, which subsequently became Abyssinia.

Home to the great Queen of Sheba (Bilquis)to whom King Solomon the wise dedicated an entire book ("song of songs" or "shir Ha shirim"). Biliquis supposedly had very long and beautiful hair and pearly white teeth and a figure worth dying for.

The present day Ethiopian ladies have obviously inherited their sensuous and exotic looks from Bilquis.

They also smell good! Many exotic fragrances can be traced to this region comprising of Ethiopia, Eritrea and Yemen. Now all are miskeen.

The best Frankinsence was produced in Ethiopia.

At the height of its glory it was a very rich kingdom.

Presently one of the poorest countries in the world. No food no water and lots of AK-47.

1, what are these people good at?

It's hard to generalize citizens of a nation as a good or bad on some thing. But most Ethiopians resides in abroad found to be effective and successful in the profession they are engaged at. To mention successful ethiopian namely

Liya Kebede-The top model and named as one of 100 influential people in the world for the year 2009 .

Marcus Samuelsson -The chef who made the first state dinner in Obama time during PM Monmohan Singh visit in white house

Amsale Abera-The best wedding gown designer

Haile Gerima- Film Director, Screen writer, producer, philosopher

Fikeru Kidane- The secretary of International Olympic Committee during Samaranch time.

Kitaw Ijegu-Chief of Spacecraft and Satellite Systems Engineer for NASA.

Bekele Geleta-Secretary General of International Federation of Red Cross

These are very few to mention from many successful Ethiopian.

2, why dont we see many Ethiopians in professional positions?

You may not seen many professional Ethiopians here in Qatar seeing that they will certainly shadowed by the huge number of Indian, Pakistani, Philippines, Egyptian and others. But there are many Air craft Pilots working for Qatar Airways. Air craft Technicians. By the way Ethiopia is one of the best Boeing maintenance place in the world. Hundred various Engineers working for NDIA, Road Works, Marine field and etc. There are number of Professors in Qatar University and in Qatar Foundation.

There are of course medical doctors as well and Al Jezirra journalists.

3, what do you know abt Ethiopia?

Ethiopia is one of ancient country on Earth. Ethiopians are the first to welcome Muslim religion and welcome the messenger of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). and of course the first christian country. Ethiopia never ever colonized by any country.

4, what is the attidtude of the local people towards Ethiopians?

It varies.

5, can politics affect social interaction? ( as there is no diplomatic relation between Qatar and Ethiopia)

I do not think. The government of Qatar never ever discriminate Ethiopians.

6, does anybody have the statstics? the ethiopian expat here

Probably 10-15000

7, why do the security people focus on them?

The security people may focus on individuals from different country depends on the situation.

my fellow friends

I need reasonabl and honest comment. hope we would make one good stduy, if we could contribute anything we know abt them.

First and foremost I would like to introduce Ethiopia and will proceed with the other mentioned questions....

Ethiopia is a landlocked country located in the Horn of Africa. It is the second-most populous nation in Africa with over 79.2 million people and the tenth-largest by area with its 1,100,000 km2. The capital is Addis Ababa menaing new flower. Ethiopia is bordered by Eritrea to the north, Sudan to the west, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, and Kenya to the south.

Ethiopia has been an independent nation since ancient times, being one of the oldest countries in the world. Besides being an ancient country, Ethiopia is one of the oldest sites of human existence known to scientists today, having yielded some of humanity's oldest traces, it might be the place where Homo sapiens first set out for the Middle East and points beyond.

When Africa was divided up by European powers at the Berlin Conference, Ethiopia was one of only two countries that retained its independence. It was one of only four African members of the League of Nations.

Ethiopia is one of the founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), G-77 and the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). Today, Addis Ababa is still the headquarter of the African Union, the Nile Basin Commission and UNECA.

Ethiopia also has its own time system and unique calendar, seven to eight years behind the Gregorian Calendar.

The country is a land of natural contrasts, with spectacular waterfalls and volcanic hot springs. Ethiopia has some of Africa's highest mountains as well as some of the world's lowest points below sea level. The largest cave in Africa is located in Ethiopia at Sof Omar, and the country's northernmost area at Dallol is one of the hottest places year-round anywhere on Earth. There are altogether around 80 different ethnic groups in Ethiopia today, with the two largest being the Oromo and the Amhara, both of which speak Afro-Asiatic languages. The country is also famous for its Olympic gold medalists, rock-hewn churches and as the place where the coffee bean originated. Currently, Ethiopia is the top coffee and honey-producing country in Africa, and home to the largest livestock population in Africa.

Ethiopia is the source of over 85% of the total Nile water flow and contains rich soils, but it nevertheless underwent a series of famines in the 1980s, exacerbated by adverse geopolitics and civil wars, resulting in perhaps a million deaths.

Ethiopia has the biggest economy in East Africa (GDP)as the Ethiopian economy is also one of the fastest growing in the world and it is a regional powerhouse in the Horn and east Africa.

If I continue it will take ages, anyways this is where I come from and I am so proud to be Ethiopian.

Ok, I totally agree there is war and famine in Ethiopia and in other African countries aswell, but that doesn't make us less fortunate as we are striving for a better day...and as we have enormous natural resources like Nile..

I believe there are more than 10,000 Ethiopians living in Qatar, trying to maintain a roof over their heads.

Ethiopians are very much known for their hospitality and friendly manners.

There was a good questioned raised up there which is question # 7, I will tell you why......because we are beautiful, we are sincere, we are different, we are friendly, out going and most of all we are strong, and have a firm belief in the things that we do, and we have a goal/aim/objective to help ourselves and our families.

We are here to better ourselves and our beloved ones, this is why you see so many labours, maids, security guards...everywhere you go whether in a restaurant, compounds, night clubs you name it... because we have a dream, we dont sit and dream, we take all the opportunity there is to overcome our problems, our current political/economical situation and to overcome hunger and poverty.

Ethiopia is one of the oldest civilizations on the planet. They are relatively new to Qatar, but they share a rich history with Arabia. They prefer working/immigration to North America and Europe than GCC. Qatar is trying to diversify the low paid job among different nationalities, so they started giving RP to Ethiopian nationals. They were few Ethiopians here in Qatar who have fought in the Zubara battle.
