Living [AT] Doha

By Cardozo

I am moving to Doha soon...

How is life? What is the common/best entertainment for people there?

How relaxed/stressed are people and work there? What is the average amount of vacation days that I have to reuqest? and How do people spend their time after working? (night life, sea, sports, etc...)

Too many questions huh?

I heard that Rydge's and Qube are full of hookers, but hadn't noticed any in Irish Harp (my new favourite spot for drinking beer). But getting to Cardozo's question - life in Doha is what you make of it. Unfortunately, if this is your first overseas posting and you are a citizen of the US, life here may be something of a culture shock. It all depends on how open you are to new cultures, mixed cultures, no culture, mad driving, double standards, inadequate infrastructure, tinker, tailor, soldier sailor. You get my drift, right? If you can adapt, if you are willing to get caught up in the frenzy of an exploding economy, if you can find a school for your kids and a dentist that won't want to take your right arm in payment for a couple of fillings and a polish then, like me, you might even grow to love the place with the same kind of fondness that a family has for an elderly aunt who pees herself on the dining room chair at Xmas. Loveable in small doses, but always eager to get away from her for a while. Am I rambling again? Where' the sherry?

without QL I wouldn't have had so many chums here in Qatar - you have a good sense of humour!  Please don't make me think you are a troll - you are far too nice to be one :D

you will find the life style is different from US.. not better, not worse..just different and it's up to you to like it or to hate it....

i personally enjoy in here Despite endless obstacles than come across and you have deal with…lol…

Just today QT, new guy in Doha got f*** frustrated when he tried to book a taxi, and has been told to wait 3 hours for the cab!!! Isn’t that frustration??? But hamdullilla, some QLers helped him, and gave him a ride….

But later tonight this guy will probably go to Irish Harp or Rydges, or somewhere else and will enjoy the atmosphere in there and will be lauging at this small accident with the taxi...this is a life...

so... come here, explore Doha, enjoy it!

Welcome to Qatar!!!

I do that all the time in reality.  Be interesting if we are together at a party :/

Two innaproptiate persons together.

Would that be like a sort of:

'oi you! That was innapropriate -  come outside and say that again!' situation?

ooops ... i am afraid you will always see cyber trots wherever you go ... like any other forums.

By novita77• 22 Apr 2008 22:46
novita77

3 weeks to see are really true. I have done inland sea, dhow trip, dukhan and all those million times. The only thing that make it enjoyable i am doing it with different crowd of people.

life in Doha is bearable when you make your friend and try to make the most of it.

By jauntie• 22 Apr 2008 22:46
jauntie

cyber tourettes?  Is that like verbal diarrhea?   as in the cyber trots ..

when my sister came to stay with me, I'd lived here for about a year and in two weeks I concluded I'd done it all.

But then I realised I hadn't QUITE seen it all, when QLSG organised a dhow trip to an off-shore island.

If you make friends, you are never lonely ..

However, Qatar is about the size of Greater London and Greater London would probably take you more time to get around.

cardozo ... alexa have summon it up pretty well. Qatar living social group is the best way to meet people when you get here.

I worry about you - you say you aren't in Qatar?  Or maybe you are, I don't know because I'm not on line a lot at the moment, but you seem really rather harsh (even COCKY ?) in your comments about people here.  May I ask, in the nicest possible way, .. why?

By Cardozo• 22 Apr 2008 22:26

Supernurse - I have been reading all the site pages and forum questions - Thanks for your VALUABLE suggestion!!!

Again... don't feel that you have to be present on this post... The questions are for those who are here to help and share not to teach and give lessons!

Hey supernurse... don't take it bad... I am joking with novita... Also don't feel at any time that you have to answer my post.

I got the first answer... There is stress in the air ;)

By anonymous• 22 Apr 2008 21:45

if you 'want' all the answers on one page, I suggest that you do your own research and not expect others to do it for you.......I want doesn't get...
