Moving to Qatar

Hello, I am considering taking a position in Qatar. Could anyone share about what the nightlife/social life is like there? And the rules around drinking?

Thanks!

It depends on your job place which will at first become your social circle. I think of Doha like a big college frat house but you'll be making more money and have more opportunities to travel. If you know the right people, there's a couple of parties every weekend. Parties happen at houses not clubs. The nightlife is a bit pretentious and always high end. There's only 1 or 2 places where its like a pub/garage bar.

I would not worry about the night life. Most new people should worry about their cultural transition and how much BS you can put up with (which hopefully is why you're paid alot to come here).

Good luck.

Hi OP,

I moved here from China, too. I don't know much about the nightlife, but the country's a pretty safe place and very international. I prefer it to Shanghai. However, taxis are hard to find, so you might want to arrange a driver after you arrive.

(Just a side note: don't share too much personal info on QL.)

Good luck!

Perhaps next year i will also be there, if things go accordingly to plan. I hope it will be an adventure.

Let's just see how it goes, cheers!

Night life is expensive here, in the sense that you can only drink in bars or restaurants in 5 star hotels. A bottle of beer will cost you around $8, but then you can get your own liquor license and drink at home for just over $2 for bottle of beer.

Not much of a night scene but then enough for a small place like Doha.

Social life is pretty much dead here. Any club/bar you go to, you will have plenty of Indians/Pakistanis/Bangalis/Nepalis/Philli and local guys hitting at you........

May be you will like it............but maybe not. The only choice is to create a small but decent social circle of your friends and socialize at their place/club houses, etc.

Think twice befor moving. Doha has almost no night life and social life is very limited. It is a very conservative society ! there is one liquor shop and its very expensive. UAE is much better.
