National Day

Dear Readers,

On the national day, thousands of people came with lots of hope and pleasure, to the cornice, to watch the calibrations. I am sure the majority of them went back with great disgrace and dissatisfaction. Was there anything visible to see other than a parade at morning and fire show at evening? We could read in newspapers about many things, but when came to see nothing was there! We heard much about events on that day but apparently nothing happened.

Great many of spectators who spread from museum area to Sheraton in such a chilly weather and wind, wished to have cup of coffee but none of them can see any coffee shops around there. Is that possible for all men to come to the cafe located nearby Sheraton to have a cup of coffee?
If you compare the rate of spectators, arranged sanitation (Restrooms) facilities were too limited. It was not enough to serve the purpose.

Motor traffic was not controlled. many were seen compressed on the road due to heavy traffic which were in fact occurred with out reason! Blocking roads with unnecessary drives is accusable as it block the roads and would obstruct the passengers. It blocked many cars which were wanted to go to airport and other useful places. Traffic jam was seen not only in cornice road but was seen its parallel road as well, which really made people trouble. Many could not return to home, after watching, in time.

It would have been good if some nice program were taken place, if road was cleared well, If some mobile coffee bars were opened, if enough sanitations were established.
People were just moving through cornice footpath , towards west and towards east, to see what was happening on national day. In the evening all we could see was the fire show and it was started late , failed to keep the time.

Hope things will change next time..

To be fair, it was well advertised that the road would be shut.

And judging from the number of photos I've seen it seems that plenty was going on.

And finally, the fireworks were well advertised to start at 9pm, in the papers and on websites, so I guess 10pm isn't too bad. We all know nothing starts on time in this part of the world!

But the general disorganisation of things like crowd control and facilities seems to be par for the course for these types of events in Qatar.

My wife and i go to the corniche around 6pm and was hoping to watch a good show. but we were disappointed coz all you'll find is people walking here and there, all wondering what time the fireworks will start. u cant stay on one place coz u'll freeze ur butt off. we finally decided to leave the corniche @ 8:30 and walk back to were weve parked our car 4kms away.the fireworks starts at 10pm. we just saw it on top of our bulding. But in fairness the fireworks great! yeah i aggree that theyve lacked in proper event management...
