New Year Party in Doha 2010

Doha Marriott: There are several great events here. Al Fayrouz is offering a lavish Middle Eastern buffet with a band and singer from Beirut. Or head to Al Ruwaq, where you can enjoy live music and a DJ. Both options include an open bar and midnight toast, with prices TBC. Grand Hyatt Doha: At the poolside restaurant, Rocca, you can dine and enjoy an elegant five-course meal (prices starting at QR300 per person) while waiting for the stroke of midnight, or perhaps join the party upstairs in the Dunes, which will be featuring a champagne menu, cocktails, shooters and canapés. Entrance to Dunes is QR200 per person with private room available (seats 10) for QR4,000.

InterContinental Doha: The InterCon has several events to help you see in the new year. First, new venue Lava, which opens earlier this month, will have a DJ and a members only countdown to 2010 for QR250. Down the hall in Paloma, there will be a set menu of Tex-Mex cuisine, inclusive of one glass of bubbly, for QR490. Paloma will also have a DJ, dancing and countdown to the new year. If dining isn’t in your plans, entrance to Paloma and one glass of bubbly can be arranged for QR250.

La Cigale Hotel: Al Wajbah Ballroom will host its first ever event, with two Arabic singers – Najwa Karam and Ayman Zabeb – prices TBC. Or you can head up to the Doha favourite Madison Piano Bar, featuring live entertainment from the popular singer Ranin El Chaar and her talented pianist Tony, with a special set menu and one glass of bubbly for QR550. The Le Central Restaurant has a delectable seven-course menu on offer, with a glass of bubbly for QR350. Last but certainly not least, the best view in Doha; Sky View has a festive night out for QR150. Bring in the new year from high above the rest of the city.

Ritz-Carlton Doha: If going all out at the last premier event of 2009 is your plan, look no further than the Ritz-Carlton, where a Michael Jackson tribute will steal the show. Starting at 8pm in the Al Wosail Ballroom you will be greeted with canapés and cocktails, a four-course meal will follow, then an amazing performance will entertain you to the fullest before the countdown and balloon drop. Cost is QR800. Or if MJ isn’t quite your thing, the Ritz will have live blues music followed by a countdown and balloon drop in Habanos Cigar Bar from 9pm-3am. Entrance is free. The Admiral’s Club, meanwhile, offers the same with a live DJ from 9pm-3am for QR150.

Sharq Village & Spa: The Sharq will offer a ‘Coastal Countdown to 2010’ at Al Dana Restaurant and Cigar Bar. The Al Dana will have a four-course meal prepared by chef Christophe Buffille for QR400, inclusive of a pass to the Masquerade DJ Disco Ball. Without dinner, separate entrance to the ball is QR200 and includes two cocktails. At Cigar Lounge, guests may join the magenta theme night, with five-piece band and resident DJ on hand. The countdown party at Cigar Bar includes canapés and two drinks, all for QR200.

Sheraton Doha: There’s a choice of new year celebrations at the Sheraton. Give the Irish Harp a try, with live singer and DJ – cost is QR250 per person, which includes two standard drinks. The Waterhole is also offering two drinks and live band as part of its QR200 package. For pulling out all the stops, however, head to the Salwa Ballroom for the hotel’s New Year Gala, featuring a long list of live entertainment. DJ Mario, Rain Duo, the Ex-Libris Dancers and Life After 6 are among the acts. Arrive between 8pm and 8.30pm for an aperitif, then the dinner buffet will be served (QR580 per person, includes soft drinks, water, tea and coffee). Additional food will be brought out at 1am to help fuel your celebrations.

W Doha Hotel: There are dinners at Spice Market and Market by Jean-Georges, or you can head to the Crystal Lounge for Diamond Night – a diamond-themed party with bubbly at midnight and a five-carat diamond raffle, all for QR250 per person. There is a masked ball being held in the Wahm Lounge for QR200, inclusive of bubbly at midnight, or head to the party in the Great Room, where for QR690 from 9pm-2am you can enjoy a lavish six-course dinner with live music from Chico & The Gypsies.
