i agree with somwer on Avatar.. i still have not seen it, but am not the least bit bothered :P

i watched Orphan the other day just out of curiosity, whoa! a very disturbing movie! after watching, i let my cousin borrow it so she can watch, and she had to ask me for a feel-good movie that i can lend her just to erase the images of gruesome Orphan scenes in her mind.. :P

By Pepe• 11 Jan 2010 08:07

This is cool. I have actually been meaning to start a thread like this but I didn't want to start something which I might fail to sustain.

Maybe we can have a special screening every week? If there's anyone here who has a projector at home, or a big LCD screen, that'd be nice. We can screen two films a week, one is the host's choice, the other by the voters.

Not a film critic here but I sure know how to appreciate good movies. I have my own personal collection as well, and I can recommend some. It's always nice to have people you can discuss with in terms of casting, script, execution, verisimilitude, or simply how a movie makes you feel (much like when reading a book).

At the moment, I'm watching Egyptian movies I saw in the plane over and over and over again. Keeps me cheerful. :p I've been downloading Arabic movies but don't know where to get their subtitles. I saw "West Beirut" too, I like it. :)

I would also like to share my personal quirk, that I'm not drawn to watching movies that are current, or still current. I have this weird inclination to let them age first, forgotten, before I would finally have the interest to see them. Just a quirk.

I suggest u take a break and watch Hayao Miyazaki's miracles. Each anime he made is an addition to any peace'n'beauty loving human soul :)

if not, Pan's Labyrinth is the latest best-movie-i've-ever-seen , also The Orphan is almost the same movie for the same director (guillermo del toro) !!

Well dude its a matter of taste ... as in my opinion Zinda had better Cinematography, Score and lead !! you think its cheap ... its something for you to decide .. but actually i like more than Oldboy ..

anyways ... I don't think we should watch Equilibrium .. coz i was thinking of something classic .. you know .. The Colors of Paradise by Majid Majidi

i just finished it a while ago and even though i've watched it several times over the years, it never fails to make me laugh and cry. everytime i watch it, i glean a new meaning. like tonight, i appreciated the friendship between jonathan and his best man and sarah and eve. at first, i looked at it as a simple love story..but over time, the value of friendship overshadows the romantic side of it.

And how did Gus Van Sant came to inspire Good Will Hunting from some of Bela Tarr's works?

I'd rather believe Tarr would have his influences from Federico Fellini from how I see the style of Bela Tarr's movies...

Dude Bela Tarr the filmmaker you're making fun of .. Is one of the most influential filmmakers ... he's the main influence behind the master-pieces of Gus Van Sant ... !!

So Come on !! Be realistic .. he is brilliant

You don't like him .. thats your call .. but at least you got to admit he's one of a kind.

Theres a clip here showing in Dubai they started The Scene Club under the auspices of the Dubai Film Festival.Does anyone know anyone at Doha Tribeca that we can suggest we get a Scene Club going in Doha????
