Other Mall Problems......
In response to the events of the last few days in qatar and with much respect to the dead, i want to talk about other issues that need to be taken seriously which in my opinion could start a fire too.... smoking indoors in qatar is a major problem especially in these malls.... starbucks coffee shop in villagio is notorious for pple smoking and when you ask the staff to help stop the smokers, they just tell you there is not much they can do... well am sure now they will do their jobs properly.... Smokers have a right to smoke but not in enclosed spaces for a number of reasons.... please lets come together now to make sure when we are at any coffee shops, we stop whoever is smoking, whether a qatari, or a foreigner.... LETS DO IT FOR THE DEAD CHILDREN AND ADULTS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN VILLAGIO PLEASE....MAY THE LORD BLESS THE SOUL OF THE DEPARTED....AMEN.......cheers..
Respect for the law,,,, respect for others,,,, you dont see that here,,,,, and most of all respect for yourself..
Wake up.. Qatar.. respect all and yourself
Hm.... Let's say, i see qatari smoking. My move - i go and say - please, dear, stop it now. His move - "go... yourself". My move - i go to indian ( or else) security man and complain. His move : 1) he pretend he does not understand me. 2) he agrees with me and do nothing.3) he takes a big breath and ask qatari to stop smoking. Smokers move - my country, i do what i want. So where do i go next? Right, i shut up and go home.
I don't agree that the only way to stop pple smoking is to make a designated area... I think it's a good idea, but I think it's up to the authority of the mall to make it illegal and to actually enforce it.... There are many places in Qatar that enforce the no smoking rule and works perfectly....
Only way to stop smoking in Malls is to provide some designated area/rooms for smoking in every Mall/Cafe
Nice to see all d suggestions.....this is a very good start in educating each other....
highest authority to tell them directly. My suggestion is for the Emir to assign UNTOUCHABLE Emiri Guards to handle these people.
And they don't need to be transported to the jails, a jail can be set up at the middle of the mall itself. A 1-hour stay inside this jail for No Smoking violators I think will give the strong message that they mean REAL BUSINESS!
surely staff of the malls cant control these locals from smoking, there must be a police officers deployed and moving around the malls enable to control it.
they have signs ,, but the locals say they can do anything,,, we plock me... lets start some safety in Qatar,, stop joking and do something about it... when will the Qatar goverment make a stand , not kiss the check and say LEAVE IT TO ME... we can do anything we are Qatari.... Wake up,, yes wake up as Qatar you own these shops, you own them..... total shame on the qatari owners...
Smoking as all know its harmful, when its in public harmful for all.In Qatar its totally different i have seen some Q-people smoking inside car in petrol bunk, how can we protest for that,we informed them but shouted at us, instead of filling petrol we left from there,so its impossible here for expatriate to protest towards it.
NO SMOKING!!
i support the forum. can volunteer if required
It is not always a mall that needs attention. Our home for instance whether we are there or not, there are stuff we do not give due importance. For instance, electrical wall sockets and extension cords. Have we noticed many of our wall sockets are placed near windows and these windows have fabric blinds or curtains hanging nearby these sockets? A spark from a socket as tiny as not visible to eye can give life to an inferno. If one plugs a higher rated electrical item into an extension cord that has less capacity can also be aother reason. For example, plugging a Vaccum cleaner to an extension cord that is used for TV, Radio and other small electrical appliances.
Fire alarm, sprinklers, fire marshals all are availed to control fire from spreading not prevent from happening. What is needed is a basic understanding of what not to have or do. A grass root level safety needs to be tought instead a roof level one. Let's start assessing our home safety first.
Ban on smoking is rather health conscious than for fire to me.
NO SMOKING (lifesize) and add FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN NOT UNDERSTAND!
"NO SMOKING" campaign inside malls should be implemented strcitly, if people does not want to follow they should strictly and discreetly escort these hard-headed stuypids out of the mall! there should be strong-willed HSE staff in the malls
What i think should be done is employing as much as possible safety officer in all the mores and station them in different area so in-case of any emergency they will be the one to evacuate the kids and also help to reduce the strength of fire before it spreads...
jjj75....thanks for your contribution to this topic.... well i know a hundred issues that i can pinpoint regarding safety in all these malls... i worked as a safety officer of an oil rig in Karratha Australia, so am quite familiar with safety issues, (trust me) i just wanted that point put accross to all to take seriously.... Not just pointing at smokers.....
cheers...
There are other things to be worried about too not just the things you see and perhaps these things are worse because you don't see them and may not be able to get the answers.
Is the wiring safe?
Do the sprinklers work?
Are there adequate evacuation procedures?
Are the staff fire drill trained?
Are there enough fire exits?
Are they blocked/locked?
Does the fire alarm work
I could go on but just pointing at the smokers is only scratching the surface of the mall problems.
yet again ringo i say to you thanks for bringing this issue up... most serious problem in the malls id say...The staffs are always scared to tell the smokers off... i think you are right... we need to all come together now to stop this.... we are all in it now, and need to step up on this issue... bless the soul of the people who died ....
...should be trained not to be afraid to apprehend people who are smoking inside malls regardless of nationality.
And to all SMOKERS, please be responsible enough to know when and where not to smoke. You may smoke your lungs out, just be at the right place when you do so.
Please help stop smoking indoors in our malls.... cheers...
