"Padre" what does it really meant

Padre is commonly use by me in most posts.

"Padre" is a Spanish word for father. And often times use to address Catholic priests then and now. And since Philippines was under Spain for 33e years, a lot of Spanish words were basically integrated to the national language.

But "Padre" was also use to address the "godfather" of a child during baptism. It's the man-to-man addresses of each other which means the "godfather" is considered the "other" father/s of the child being baptized.

"Padre (and another version, Pare") becomes a nickname for a famous actor, by the name of Joseph Estrada (yes, the one-time actor and President of the Republic), which get his nickname "Erap" which is the reverse spelling of "Pare".

Nowadays, it's most common same meaning is "buddy" and not just a buddy, but a close buddy.

So if I call or someone call you "Padre or Pare", it means this person regards you highly!

Good morning, Padres!

Its difficult to explain but it is a close relationship between males....akin to being blood brothers. Your compadre is more than a friend he will help you out with anything and it is bound by financial and social ties.

no, the use of pare for buddy/godparent of one's child is not from Padre (father). it's a shortened version of compadre - compatriot in english. in 'filipinized' spanish, its complete term is kumpare. you refer to your child's godfather as kumpare/pare.

padrino is if a person is one's godfather. but it has an entirely different connotation these days.

Oryx is right, godfather means padrino, or wasta, you answer for somebody like in baptism or wedding, the godparents act as the second parents for the child or couple getting married.

Kabayan is "ka" and "bayan", "ka" meaning "co" or "living in the same". "Bayan" really mean "town or province or country" so "kabayan" mean countryman or barriomate or townmate!

Like "kaklase" which meant "classmate"! "Padre" connotes closeness or deep friendship!
