AFP, Kairouan
Dozens of Tunisians demonstrated on Thursday against the topless protests of radical women's rights group Femen, outside a courthouse in the city of Kairouan where Tunisian activist Amina is due to go on trial.

The small crowd shouted slogans, including “Get out” and “Dirty people,” that were directed at the young woman who was arrested on May 19 after painting the word “Femen” on a wall near a cemetery.

She is charged with illegal possession of pepper spray, which carries a possible prison sentence in Tunisia.

Three activists from the feminist group Femen have been arrested after baring their breasts in Tunis in what the group described as its “first topless protest in an Islamic state.”

The women — one German and two French

— were detained after taking off their coats outside the Ministry of Justice on May 29, revealing their naked chests scrawled with “Breasts Feed” and “Revolution” and holding signs saying “F**k your morals!” alongside the Femen logo.

m3, I repeat....women are equal to men and they have every right to decide what they want to wear or what they want to do. And even though I am a Moslem, I would never say any thing otherwise because of my cowardice or because of greed of getting something free from Islamic institutions. I have nothing against Qatar......why are u trying to put words in my mouth......Are u really Qatari?...U have been QL member only for 19 hrs, but you have already made up your mind to prove me anti Qatari (specifically ).That makes me suspect your motives of being on QL. Are U sure you don't come from that particular country which I don't want to mention here?

M3, hiding your true opinion is cowardice. And making people do or say things against their own will & better judgement for the fear of their lives or well being is violence. Now keep your hand on your heart & say that it is not happening in Arab societies........I don't mean to be offensive. But I wish people especially women had more freedom in this society or my society or any other society.

(violent society!!!) Arab society and cowardice dont mix very well

think twice please before posting such things

its a bit offensive dont you think

hmph... its funny how some people presume that they understand how we think and how our culture and religion are

Totally agree with Good old joe. I think in Arab society, what people express in public & what they really feel are far apart. It may be the fear of backlash in a violent society or greed of power & position. But people are very very hesitant of speaking out their mind. They call it discipline.......I call it cowardice.

got to agree with sis Fatimah on that one. showing boobs in public will not get the message across to a public that strongly detests such behaviors.

I'm not about to chose my fav form of extremism as IMO they all suck. Just wish people learned to live and let live and not attempt to force feed their ideologies and views on anyone..period!

And last but not least one needs to abide by the laws of a land. There is always a legal and peaceful way to broadcast your views. Prancing around butt naked armed with pepper spray is no way to get a point across!

While I applaud the efforts of FEMEN to push fort some change towards more liberal views on the rights of women to wholly control their own existence.I detest the inappropriate and unnecessary display of nudity in public.

Stoning is in fact too good for her. What she has done could bring down the whole of human civilisation. Even now I can see Arab men in the streets drooling with the prospect of seeing a bit of breast and we all know what happens next. The raping will begin, then the wars will start, possibly even a plague from God to finish off the whole of humnaity.
