Qatar Airways really THAT bad(pilot)?
So i've signed my contract with Qatar Airways as a First Officer (Pilot).
I had another opportunity to interview with Etihad, which was NOT a confirmed job.
Though I think I maybe could have gotten the job, I would have had to jepordize my 100% guaranteed job with QR as I ALREADY recieved my contract.
Putting that into consideration I signed the contract, and am due to start soon.
I SOMEWHAT regret not trying Etihad, although it would have been HORRIBLE if I had lost both opportunities, and also advancement in Qatar is much better than with Etihad.
I am well aware that Qatar Airways is very strict, but it cannot possibly be that bad.
Is it a secure job as long as one has no problems with the set of rules?
Any input is appreciated.
Especially from the ones working in QR, or even the ones that know anything about it..
Thank you
I see it has been 2years since your first concern.
Now that you have been with QA, how do you feel?
You may be able to squash the fears of another person joining QA in the future.....
gadarene when i read you first comment i thought everyone has a freedom to express his opinion and you might be an honest guy looking to inform him about your experience or knowledge of QR, but the second comment makes you sound like a douche ... stop talking generally and give examples if you are so sure of your information ... on the other hand as a pilot you are always trained to follow rules, our whole careers are about following strict rules to ensure safety and maximum efficiency ... so dont worry about following the rules, it may feel a little odd when you first join, but later on they will become second nature and you will stop looking at them as rules
did you ask them to explain the rules to you?

As a pilot you will enjoy QA...but cabin crews they really have bad times coz of the strict rules...
I have some good friend working for qatar airways,1 pilot and some cabin crew they seem to be happy with Qatar Airways
passengers' lives are depending on you so they might have a strict rules.... but whatever it is... i think it would be for the betterment of the company and especially of you...
If you know what to expect in terms of life in Doha, that's most of the battle won...however,working for QR,that's about half the battle, the other half is actually working for QR!...as i said mate,if they're not telling you the rules BEFORE you sign,Houston we definitely have a problem! :) you pick your own battles bud! :)...
Mate, know a few British QA pilots here, and they're happy and have been in Doha for ages. Good package, great place for families....not too many negatives! Roll with it and make the most of the life in Doha...it's getting better all the time.
IF YOU LIKE TRY TO APPLY IN KARWA....
PEACE....
[Mods Note: follow the rules for advertising or you'll be suspended]
@Tandurifish are you the PR spokesperson for QR? point number 2 I had a great laugh at, thanks for the humour tonight, oh point 4 is a classic as well, YES they really care about their staff....bahahahaha
1- It is best airlines and CEO himself is a trained pilot...2- The atmosphere, the ambience of working in a ***** star airlines itself is a charm.3- Crew members are pretty.4- They care about staff.5-QR knows the value of technical person. So stop worrying and start living ur best life...
Thanks for your response. Please DO tell me if you have any examples of what kinds of things go on in QR.I am NOT the least bit concerned about the country itself as I have been to Doha, I have lived in the Middle East for a while.I am very curious as to WHY we don't have these rules to be honest, but i'm sure we will be given them later.I do NOT mind abiding by rules if it will give me a promising future in the long run, I just don't want to get sacked for NO reason whatsoever.Any input is apprecaited.
A different point of view,if i may be so bold...let's look at like this,EVERYTHING in life comes at a price...EVERYTHING...is the package that QR offers to pilots good? yes, probably better than others in region i would say...are your chances of advancing in QR better than other regional airlines? again,i would say, probably yes...BUT the downside that no one tells you when you sign on the dotted line is what you will experience first hand in a matter of time...seeing as i'm always labelled as the one "with only negative things to say about Qatar",tell you what?...give yourself a few months flying with them, then come back here & YOU tell us how YOU feel about the experience...good luck my friend...i could be wrong but i think you're going to need it! :)...
P.S did it occur to you there is a reason you don't know what exactly these "rules" are before you signed on the dotted line?!...
Thanks a lot for the quick and encouraging responses all.I do not have ANY problem following the rules, I do NOT however KNOW what these rules are =/Again thanks, I feel much much better and excited to start :)
You wont regret...just follow their rules and enjoy flying ...All the Best!
Sir, the Qatar Airways is one of the most respected in the GCC and also in the world. I would be really unfair and an idiot if I call it "bad". Based on my experiences, Qatar Airways is the best and will be the best. You are one of the lucky ones to be working with them, that too as a pilot! I am sure you will enjoy a good team and perhaps the most friendliest group of co-workers ever.
I never heard much complaints about and from Qatar Airways workforce. In the airport, they seem to the most enjoying and fun people working with the customers, from that i assume it is a very good opportunity :)
QA is fine till u dont mess with the rules
many left Etihad and join QR , you better ask one of them as they have a real experience with both , so you will have a better idea
