Saudi prince ridicules Qatar as 'only 300 people and a TV station'
----------------------------------------------------

Saudi prince has ridiculed the kingdom’s Gulf neighbour Qatar, describing the country as “only 300 people and a television channel”.
The comment was made to the Wall Street Journal by Prince Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, the influential former US diplomat who is leading Saudi-US joint efforts to depose of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad.
Both Saudi Arabia and Qatar support toppling the Assad regime but are at odds over who should replace it.
Saudi Arabia has been a vocal critic of Qatar’s role in arming rebel groups in Syria, alleging the weapons have ended up in the hands of Islamist militants.
In an attempt to downplay Qatar’s increasing power in the region, Prince Bandar told the WSJ the country "is only 300 people. And a television channel, and this is not a country".
The report sparked fury on Twitter, with Qataris describing the comment as “insulting".
Qatari Foreign Minister Khaled Al Attiyah retaliated with his own Twitter comment, saying each Qatari was worth a country and that his nation taught children to respect and appreciate each other.
Academics and journalists criticised the prince’s comment as "an abuse of the State of Qatar and its people".

Couldn't agree more with brother Hislam. It's sad, given the tribulations and calamities facing much of the Arab nation today, that those in power leave no opportunity to belittle one another alone.

In truth much of what they face today of oppression and humiliation is what their own hands have earned yet they show no sign of realization and reform!

Instead of discussing how to integrate; we are (Arabs) out there cock fighting. It's no wonder how we reached where we are now.

Let's go back to March and the stories that were emerging from the Arab League summit here in Doha:

"Saudi and Qatari delegates were heard hurling shrill abuse at one another and exchanging blows in private meeting rooms down the corridors of the assembly hall. The conference proceedings were abruptly halted as Arab delegation members pitched in to separate them. A total blackout was quickly drawn down on the summit as it broke up in disarray.

Riyadh - and Prince Bandar in particular - accuses the Qataris of conspiring to bring the Muslim Brotherhood to power in Damascus, including radical groups tied to Al Qaeda."

Perhaps he said there is one station for every 300 people. Its possible he may have been misquoted. I for one would be suprised a thousand times if this guys in Saudi attacked Syria rather then the americans and showed us they are really strong as their words

Maybe Saudi are lining up the pretence to invade Qatar and absorb it back into Arabia.

This is the same Saudi Prince who told Russia that if they don't stop supporting Assad, he will command Chechen rebels to attack the winter olympics in Russia?

What a lovely bunch of people we have running the world these days.

With the falling levels of living standards, poverty, unemployment, and the open season looting and corruption on every level within the Saudi administration, I’m pretty sure Prince Bandar has lot more to worry about than the 300 Qataris and their TV channel.
