Ramadan Kareem everyone. I am celebrating Ramadan in Qatar for the 16th year in a row. And like every year, I will be fasting to express solidarity with my Muslim brothers and sisters.

I understand about the sighting of the moon, but surely Ramadan is for X number of days, and we know when we will see the moon, as we are modern day humanity right? We even know the lunar cycle of Jupiter for instance!
Is the uncertainty due to possible cloud cover? If so, surely Ramadan could go on for ever in theory?

I have a question:
