Hi

I'm a single female from Singapore looking to relocate to Doha in August. I was just wondering if there are other fellow Singaporeans in this forum? It would help greatly in my transition to hear a familiar accent.

Or for that matter, anyone who are willing to be friends and offer sound advice would be great ;P

Looking forward to hear from you

I wanted to ask if anyone knows of any upcoming events in Qatar? I'm looking for something fun and interesting to attend. Let me know if you have any ideas!

If you want, there's the RedDotters but it is mainly tied to Singapore public holidays and National Day. Occassionally there are ones like Dhow cruise. The Malaysian group also organise a few activities.

The rest is private events.

Otherwise, I have been advising people to sign up with Qatar Natural History Group. Big group that organises desert trips, conservation activities, and trips around region.

As for spices, to add to Chanel answer, you can try Shop Rite Supermarket (after Pizza Hut)or Dasman Centre along Airport Road . Actually Carrefour also has an Ethnic Food Row.

I'm afraid I can't help because most of these people there are either with their companies or with their entire family. Will you be working in Doha?

Anyway, I think it would be alright for you to get an apartment first, then look for some other expats, who will be coming to Doha(there are lots of people coming in everyday), to share the unit with. It's always better to choose whom you wish to stay with rather than the other way round. Of which, you might be burnt in the initial stage because housing prices here are rocketing sky high.

thanks chanel! you are a great help. i will definitely bring sambal there la!

One question, do you know anyone living near the corniche area who is looking for a housemate?

Hi! I've been in Doha for slightly more than a year. I know there are several service apartments around the City area near Corniche. It's really nice. There are a lot of expatriates from China and Singapore as well.

Relocating to Doha can mean missing out on your weekly jogs (in singlets and shorts) at the parks and reservoirs. Living in a service apartment gives you the freedom to use the gym and pool (some even sauna) whenever you want.

Living near the city gives you the convenience to do grocery and shopping within a short distance without much hassle.

There is a supermarket in Ramada called "Megamart". It sells lots of oriental spices and flavorings. Prices are more costly though. Otherwise, Family Food Centre (opposite the airport) do sell certain oriental spices/food stuff as well.

For cooking curry, there are lots of spices here. There are not much varieties of vegetables here as well. Bring along dried mushrooms/scallops/shrimps/ikan bilis/squid if you love making soup.

Let me know how else I can help you settle in Doha.

Dennis--> I don't think I can push it back 1 more month haha well, I'll just grin and grit it I suppose. =) Do do you guys organise meetings/outings and stuff?

Can you also find Asian food/spices in the supermarkets?

oriental qatari, when dont you contact checkers, she is also a single female from Singapore, wonder if she has found accommodation here.

I think she might be here already.

Also you can check the past posting of Singaporeans here and might have a better knowledge of Singaporean in Doha.

Good luck..

that's one major expense. Everything else depends on your lifestyle. eg. lots of clubbing, expensive car, eat out frequently at expensive restaurants.

Search classifieds of online version of Gulf Times and Peninsula.

Hi! Its great to know that =) My primary concern is the accommodation as I've heard it's really expensive. Do you know of any girls for shared accommodation. I prefer to have a room to myself. I'm looking for a place near the airport.
