Single and moving to Qatar

Hi Everyone,

I am a sinlge black Canadian female with a job offer to teach in a all girls high school in Doha, Qatar. I have not given my answer yet because I have read a lot of negative things about being single in Qatar. Can anyone share some insight on racism, being a single gal, and/or are the possibilities of meeting others to date?

OMG your a tough cookie, "eunuch" first I had to look it up, to see what it meant, oooh know that would be a bit drastic, i'd say you don't need any protector. I bet you'd soon out any unwanted men in their place. Good for you. Take Care :-)

it's a good idea.. but such man should be a eunuch.. if you are ready to become a eunuch, we will definitely consider your candidature for the post of the "official protector".

Oh Qatarisun i am so sad, I will not have any friends in Qatar?

You've broken my heart :0) lol

Mick

PS Girls/Ladies Only is that not discrimination, I could be the official protector for the group from those undesirable men!!! What do you think?

I socialize just a lot.. it's up to you... New bars are open every other week... There are plenty of things to do, and become more month by month. First, you can join our girls group. Drop me a PM, i will guide you how to find our group on FB and accept you as a member. We do a lot of stuff: bars outings, private movie parties, shisha outing.. we plan dhow trip, quads in desert, jet ski in Pearl..we even plan trip to Dubai, etc., etc.

Then you will create your own network, will meet more people and make new friend.. First few months will be a bit difficult. Climate, culture, mentality, system and rules, all is different from Canada. And first few months you will miss your family and your friends, FOR SURE YOU WILL!! But if you are willing to embrace the changes, you will be just fine!

Your worry should not be so much focused on your social life but on your working conditions. Have you researched your school and the experiences of those working there? There are some schools here in Doha that will make your life a living hell.

If you do come, will you bring some boxes of Tim Horton's????

Doha, just has the small town feel, except in regards to traffic...lol

If you're used to the bustling city lifestyle then you might find Qatar quite boring but other that, it's fine. This place sort of grows on you after time.

DO COME. Give it a try. There are so many Canadians here, so you won't feel alone.

Try and build a Network of people starting with other Canadian females already leaving in Qatar. As you probably know Men are treated differently yo Women.

Judging by your question I assume you are also worried that not that your just a single woman but black.

I was born in Birmingham England, I was mixing and living along side English, Irish, African, Indians, Asians in the 60's and considering the expats are over taking the Qatai Nationals.

Is it your work your worried about or being accepted by other Nationalities.

I hope you get lots of positive feed back, use other expat forums as well other than this.

As a single woman you obviously want to sure your doing the right thing. There is more to life than money.

I wish you the very best and I hope things work out for you.

Kind regards,

Mick

Racism is on another level here, its so common that people dont even talk about it any more. Theyre not even bothered by it as long as they are not on the receiving end.

As for being single, this is probably the worst place in the world for a single person. No night life, clubs are dead with literally the same people again and again every single night. Alcohol is the third most expensive in the world and as for the other singles, well the ladies are just looking for a free bottle of booze and the guys are looking for a good time. Absolutely nothing more.

My suggestion, give Dubai a try, its much more 'alive', people are about a million times nicer and it actually has a good singles scene/night life.
