Walking down the aisle

This one is one of the strangest rules in the GCC, which I find extremely degrading, is that someone (A GCC male/Female Citizen) has to get special permission from their govt to marry a foreigner?

A Qatari doesn't need prior permission to marry a GCC citizen "unless ur in the Army/Police"...u do however need a permit to marry anyone from outside the GCC....for several reasons of course "not that I agree with them at all" but preserving the culture, controlling gold diggers, and reducing numbers of unwedded Qatari females.

How do I know???

I did it myself & I married a GCC Citizen :DDDD

Plus My brother and Uncle both married from non-Qatari/non-GCC citizens.

No prior permission is needed if ur marrying from the GCC....once the wedding papers are signed u need to get them stamped at the Qatari Consulate or Embassy in ur wife's country, then get it certified in court in Qatar and FINISHED ur done...quite painless and very straight forward...TOOK ME A DAY ONLY in her country and likewise in Qatar....Both times I was done by 8:30am!!!

I am surprised at your questions, since you said you have lived here quite a while.

GCC males tend to go for wives abroad, for various reasons - chief amongst it being the cost of getting married to a local.

It is easier for a male to get permission , then a female. The reason being that there are many spinsters and also, the logic being that a foreign male will "taint" the gene pool .

But why are GCC men going for foreigners instead of their own skin?

According to recent a recent survey by the Gulf countries Cooperation, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait were amongst the highest numbers of spinster women in the GCC.

no need to get permission for above 40 yrs old women but you need to passed the criteria or requirements.

Nothing strange..I think registration formalities are required to be completed in every country.

Are you talking about permission from the Govt?

one of my close friends who hails from an Arab non GCC country wants to marry a local but it is very difficult to get permission from the government especially since she would be his first and only wife. If an already married man wants to marry a non GCC as a second wife, it is relatively easier but for a first wife, the gov insists that he should marry a Qatari woman..There is nothing with that, if all Qataris ended up marrying non Qataris who would marry the Qatari women then? As it is, there are so many single Qatari women out there, some never been married and some divorced.. I know some spinsters in their 50's who never had the good fortunre of getting married... Since they, the Qatari women cannot marry a foreigner anyway, their only hope to ever get married is to a Qatari man.. or maybe some other GCC national.
