True....If u consider the changes in Qatar lately there r more opportunities now a day to co-mingle with the opposite sex....school, work, hang out spots, tourist attractions, shopping malls, bars etc...all these were either segregated or didn't exist at all...Obviously women being allowed to drive is a MAJOR factor too...I know it's a bit strange than I'm talkin about things that should be considered basic human rights, but I can't deny that before the 2000s none of this existed in Doha...It's our current president that initiated all the positive change.

Never the less I do know that arranged marriages do exist among certain tribes in Qatar, mostly not based in Doha...Unfortunately

Generally speaking, in Qatar we have what's called a "suggested marriages", which is commonly mistaken for an arranged marriage.

In a suggested marriage, when the Groom expresses an interest in marriage usually the female family members start dropping in names and making suggestions...friends, colleagues, what not, and if someone sparks an interest then a meeting is arranged "mostly by the groom's mother". If they click Then an engagement takes place shortly after....If not then more meetings take place until both the bride and the Groom feel like they have met the one.

I personally married for love, but I consider my marriage one of the oddities, just like I know that there are arranged marriages in Qatar but they r oddities now a day as well.

Traditional marriage customs in the Philippines and Filipino wedding practices pertain to the characteristics of marriage and wedding traditions established and adhered to by Filipino men and women in the Philippines after a period of courtship and engagement. These traditions extend to other countries around the world where Filipino communities exist. Kasalan is the Filipino word for "wedding",[1] while its root word – kasal – means "marriage".[2] The present-day character of marriages and weddings in the Philippines were primarily influenced by the permutation of native, Christian, Catholic, Protestant, Spanish,[1] and American models.

Brit: In my community, traditionally speaking, it's the elders of the family that takes a significant role in bringing a couple together, Be it parents or relatives.

However, in modern day marriages, most couples are drawn together by mutual attraction and they take the decision to marry by themselves.

Date for period of time, fall in love, get engaged, then get married after a period of engagement to know if compatible then married with modern wedding, or elope to save money.

India makes the brides family pay the groom dowry to take her......

Strange custom.

Such marriages also do happen in India..

- Lovers elope to a differnt state far away and get married in a temple or else they may be killed especially if they are from two different casts.

- The girl's father, powerful and resourceful, would kidnap an elegible bachelor, keep him awake for 2 full days in custody and then force the drowsy man to do all the rituals in the marriage ceremony infront of his own crowd.

The ugly but innocent lady is made to believe everything is going well.

Each community and race has celebrations unique to their own and based on their faiths, beliefs, customs and superstitions!

My family, which is a merry medley of all sorts has witnessed all the different ceremonies over the years : church weddings, Hindu weddings, Buddhsit weddings, nikhahs and Walimahs, and simple receptions too.

My own wedding was according to the Islamic tradition which included a simple family only registration and nikhah and then three days later a grander Walimah.

Where i come from marraige proposals are usually propagated by the elders of the prospective groom or by the groom himself to the bride's father or through his female relativs.

traditionally speaking, the mother of the groom will keep an eye for the eligible bride, and after seeing an alliance, they would inform the guy or his father of the girl who would then try to contact the family her family.
