What is the best Club in Doha

beenthere
By beenthere

I just want to share my opinion on a couple of the clubs in Doha;

Ritz carlton is quite nice with the nicest pool in Doha. Recommended.

Diplomatic Club has now banned bikinis and are giving warning letters for using bikinis in the pool! Apparently all the western expats have left and it is now an arabic club.

Hi,

I am a new expat in Doha, coming from Egypt. I am looking for a good social and sports club in Doha where my kids can get swimming and Handball lessons / training.

I know that I am joining in a little late here. After reading through the answers, I guess I missed the type of club this is talking about. Night club, Sports club horse riding club all though that would be a great club. I guess I am still fishing here.

I tried a Borat unitard but found it caused a lot of rubbing, that friction caused a rash that was uncomfortable in so many ways. Plus me manboobs look better with support and can hide me mobile in me cups.

Can men wear bikinis at the diplomatic club? I dont spend lots of money on waxing only to hide the results.

Full membership for one year for a couple is, I think, QR6,575 (less for single) - that is what I believe. Some of that may be a first time registration fee.

Apparently, they no longer do temporary membership for 3 months, 6 months and so on.

There may be a waiting list to join, but people drop out or join another club, so one may not have to wait as long as the list implies.

Their phone number to check is: +974 4281428

The hotles/clubs near Oasis etc. beaches suffer from being downstream of all the oulets along the corniche as this has an anticlockwise seawater circulation - if any. So beaches are poor quality (sometimes not visible to the naked eye) unless they are replenished. If you want sea swimming and lounging on beach the only choice i would recommend at the moment is the Sheraton. It is resonable price (

I never considered Oasis as an option cause I've heard it's a hooker joint, and that's definitely not the place for me to be. Qatar really needs friendly family clubs. If any QLer plans to open one I'll be ur first member :D hehe

Its very run down and scruffy but I kind of like it. Lots of attractive Lebanese people are memebers and I find it a friendly place. However, they recently introduced a rule of families only so I don't think single men are allowed to join or use the facilities anymore.

The pool is nice but there are not enough loungers and most are broken. Tennis court is okay but the gymn is very old. Also, although the food is cheap, the service is bad and the waiter is guaranteed to get your order wrong as he refuses to write it down even if you tell him to.

Despite all this (and the fact that they don't serve alcohol) I quite like it because it is cheap, unpretentious and friendly. It looks like a throwback to an American hotel from 1950.

What are your comments about the club in Oasis Hotel? A few of my friends are planning to join their club and they are inviting me to join them but up to now I am still having second thoughts.

Anyone who's already a member?

You can drive to Dubai but you have to go through Saudi Arabia. It's about 6 hours.

As for nightclubs Pearl is not hooker-oriented and has a pleasant atmosphere until it starts getting overcrowded on weekends.

"But the management isn't the one that'll have to deal with it, all the women in bikinis will."

Dealt with it ok so far. Gotta say I seem to attract more attention walking round Mega Mart than I do by the pool. Always some staring, but not anywhere near the level you get just out and about. And before any smart ass can jump in, that is not because I look better fully dressed lmao.

Also looking good in a 'kini isn't the point of wearing one (for most of us) its about getting a tan on as much of you as you can!!!!

I guess people don't want to be told what to wear, especially if it was ok before. I believe it's the same feeling for muslims in the west that are not allowed to wear headscarves.

Let us wear bikinis and let the Management of the clubs deal with the real problem - staring men. :-)

Your profile says you are a Diplomat - does this mean you are a disgruntled one because your Club doesn't allow two piece swimming costumes any more? lol

I was quite tempted to get a membership to the Diplomat - seemed a nice, cosy sort of size rather than a big glossy place. However, in the end I plumped for The Ramada for convenience, price and generally OK facilities (gym a bit small but then I only use the treadmill occasionally anyway).

Surprised to hear Westerners leaving a) cos they would forfeit quite a few QRs and b) who cares if you can't wear a two-piece? Very few women look attractive in a bikini anyway! (well, they sure don't look like models anyway)

All in my humble opinion

Off for a swim now (giggles) and will try not to scare the natives!

Ritz is really great as it has a range of facilities such as large indoor pool, indoor tennis courts, squash court, good gym etc. A superb outdoor pool. Cost is 13,500 for single membership. Waiting list applies. Yet more impressive is Sharq Village and Spa. This does not offer tennis, squash or indoor pool but is probably the most exclusive. People go there for privacy. Cost is 18,500 for single membership. You get a discount on massages which I think was 10 or 20%

Not sure about Four Seasons cost?

Intercontinental hotel got some good offers for the pool and gym section,, its ok prices if you compare to the ritz or Sharq village & spa..

Dip club is rather boring with a lot of locals..

Marriot used to charge 2.500 QR annual, plus 1.000 QR registration fee. But now they put it up to 5.000 QR annual, plus QR 1.500 registration fee. Thats for single lady.

For the old charges i thought it is a good bargain ... but not too sure about the new one. I find it rather steep.
