I come to QL, sometimes see a thread or two that makes me feel 'aw there's nice people', and then the 99% of the other threads make me feel like the site is a garbage fest with people either attacking each other, saying something useless or being sarcastic.

Mj i havent been following QL since the Eid holidays and since i got back to work been busy with other stuff but keep looking in from time to time so i have no idea which are these innocent ones you are talking about :P

But even before the eid holidays i have noticed some newbies who continue to have their own conversations with each other in the middle of a thread and mods dont seem to delete it. Also they open really retard topics which force me to wonder if they are "working adults" or children sitting at home bored.

I dont understand why the posts, comments or anything which you dont like of a troll should be so much of a bother....u dont like it dont get into it... I dont think there is any compulsion to comment on each and every thread....

Lots of you have said above that there are no meaningful discussions of late... are you all waiting for someone to come up with something of relevance for you to comment/discuss...if you think something worthy needs to be discussed why not post it..I dont think trolls stop you from posting...

Moreover I have observed that even the people who consider themselves in the category of being on QL for long time do try to feed the trolls by participating on their posts and when the things turn nasty they start calling for mods attention or start fuming...

Now this being an open forum, anyone and everyone with his likes, dislikes, attitudes, IQ's is free to post and gets its audience too... if one thinks these are not worthy of participating just refrain your fingers from typing out something...

Also it is not only the so called newbies who behave nasty...we all are privy to posts of certain old timers who are equally nasty and just love to instigate others either directly or indirectly...

The long time QL members need also to watch their steps....just for example right on this thread see the reaction for the same meaning statement of Phoenix2009 and Smoke: Compare the reaction by DaRude for Phoenix and UKEngg for Smoke...Phoenix was snubbed and Smoke was appreciated...

Many ideas seem to have been thrown on a few threads since last couple of days for controlling the newbies on QL... I just feel that u all are taking QL as a livelihood, just too seriously... dont treat this virtual forum as a classroom... guys old and new, chill down and enjoy the ride to your liking...

I cant relate your type of fun with a "online forum" if painting is your thing then u should be painting something somewhere else. You come to QL to get information on whats happening in Qatar, where to go to get what done. Prices on commodities, which store is having what sale, breaking news about QATAR, which club is better to visit, which gym is better this is what i call INFORMATION.

I'm very much around, but dont see anything worth replying. The problem is simple actually and has been discussed a number of times before.

1. Long time members of QL, who have met one another off the website tend to think they OWN the site now and come with an attitude that they are superior to the new members.

2. How difficult is it for everyone to just post on topics they feel they should contribute their two cents to? If you see a topic on religion that u dont agree on dont post there, if everyone did this even the posters will get tired of posting their crap due to lack of responses.

3. You people just want to collect points i feel and end up posting on topics that make no sense, feed the trolls, and the most stupid of stupid threads go to over 3 pages of utter nonsense!

I'm sick of all the "REMOVED BY MOD" signs i keep seeing...a simple solution of this would be to make a new category on QL called the "Sandpit" where the mods just need to move repeated jokes, useless topics that are posted for fun etc and at the end of the month just delete ALL that's posted under the "sandpit" section.

Remove this stupid Q&A section thats just messing up the site with people posting utter shit questions and members reply to them with more shit!

Newbies need a probation period, if mods find them misbehaving or posting useless topics they should be banned completely.

There should also be limited access to certain sections of this website where only members for over certain period of time with certain no. of points are allowed to enter. This helps in separating the trolls from the genuine members that want to help or have a meaningful discussion.

These are just some things i can think of for now..too much use of brain for one thread :p

The issue isn't the trolls. It's the members. Some of the members are completely incapable of respecting others views and are downright bigoted and arrogant and make this site a very difficult place to be.

I am here...on and off...mostly off line.

Have been having issues with jet lag and a cold this past week, and for the past three months my dog has been seriously ill. He lost the fight for life last Monday, so am dealing with that huge loss.

Other than that...got mentally tired of all the BS on here with the bashings, both religious and personal. QL is STILL a good place to come and read for entertainment and information...but you have to be in the mood to hit the OFF button more frequently than not, due to the mental midgets and their narrow minded views that they are the only ones who are right, regardless of what the topic is and if you disagree with them, they attack you. DISCUSSION isn't a word in their vocabulary.

I have missed most of you all in here...and the timings of the public gatherings have been when I am usually out of Qatar. So....hopefully, I will return renewed and refreshed when my brain arrives next week...

They have a been a variety of people that have come and gone over the years. Like some of the other members I also have been on Read only mode.

But now since this site is loosing it's touch I think it is time that old timers took a step ahead rather than back and re-own this site for worthly discussions and comments, and don't let this army of unwanted and annoying trolls take over some thing unique as Qatar Living.

I have spent time in other GCC countries and I can assure that there is nothing like QL any where else in the Gulf.

I think Qatari must reconsider QL membership policy by granting memberships only to members with an official email (e.g:@qatar.com.qa). Many Local Public forums applies that, This way they have better control over posters.

I hate to admit that QL is not the same anymore.Maybe MODS must have more involvement in deleting/blocking over-controversial posts by trolls in issues that been discussed many times already

Bottom line is that we all come here to get the news and to hear from likeminded people and to relax.

Unfortunately it is very hard to do so. There are people who are very rude and discriminating. There are people who are not courteous. There are people who love to tease people and find it fun!

the way i deal with it is like this: each person develops a reputation based on his discussions & participation which people will consider- rely on this.

Best thing with unworthy opinions is to ignore.

Some people click on thoughts (even if they differ in opinion) so nothing bad about it.
