a friend of mine here in doha was suspected on stealing an IPHONE 3 in Al Ahli hospital by one lady. The story goes like this: my friend and her daughter together with her husband who happens to be a european went for their daughter's monthly check up in the hospital. My friend and her daughter sat beside a lady, who at that time was busy playing with her IPHONE 3. The lady was called in first then after her was my friend, while my friend was inside the doctors clinic, one nurse came in and informed my friend that the lady sitting beside her,was so furious that her IPHONE 3 was stolen and was pointing at her. When they got out of the clinic, the people were already looking at her and the lady started saying things at her,my friend and her husband calmly talked to the lady and asked them if they could go to the security and have them checked. The lady was pointing at her for the reason that the case of her IPHONE 3 was found at the same toilet where my friend had been, and my friend to her surprise did not noticed that the toilet she had been was for male, she only found out about it because that was where the lady's accusation was coming from. That day my friend was using her blackberry phone, she also had an IPHONE 4 which was a gift from her husband last christmas, mind you with a receipt and which btw left at home. And so they were checked and nothing was found on them,my friend asked the lady to write a letter that she had her checked and that she was cleared of her accusation and asked her to sign on it plus one witness from the hospital, and so they did and agreed. On their way out the lady asked for her id and her info, so to prove my friend's innocence she gave her id. Apart from that,in between their conversations the lady had the nerve to ask my friend where was her husband working, which I personally find unnecessary. And then after 3 days which was today, this morning my friend recieved a call from the police dept. that she had a complain and she have to go there as soon as possible. Right now i dont know what was going on,all i can think of was that she had the letter written by that lady with a signature on it and that she had her checked that same day when the phone was stolen and she had a witness from the hospital. My friend brought her IPHONE 4 with the receipt, probably to show the lady that "why in the world will she steal an IPHONE 3 when she have an IPHONE 4???...oh life i wonder what would happen. :( and i also wonder, does this have something to do with nationality? that you easily point a finger on someone just like that?just a thought though!

Never agree to write letters, or give personal details like ID nos. etc to strangers. The victim here should have rung the police right then and there. This is a violation of her civil liberties.

Very pathetic to hear that. Sometimes, things happen around us unknowingly violent. Let her not worry and stay positive.

absurd case, the lady who lost her phone must be slapped a severe fine for negligence. she has no right of policing other guests at the hospital...but who listen to me...:)-

Exactly. Avoid any contact. It might be used against you!

moral of the story: here in Qatar, don't sit beside anybody you don't know...if somebody you don't know sits beside you...just go!!!

How infuriating for your friend..hope and pray all's worked out today itself. And after this if your friend receives any kind of contact from the accuser tell her to call the cops and complain of harassment! seriously..

Unfortunately if the matter gets solved its better to just leave and not look back. Getting involved in Qatar's law and order is like banging your head against a wall.

I wont be surprised if the lady that made the complaint is a Qatari. Then its her word against your friends.

phones can be easily tracked by the authorities, your friend has nothing to worry about. I'm sure the matter will be cleared up soon. But yeah better to take the advice given about and ask your friend to have someone who speaks and understands arabic present to that they know whats exactly going on in the station.

Why reveal your identity when you're not at fault and that too to strangers who wanna see it just for the heck of it?

Lesson to be learned here :-(

Go to the police and take someone who speaks Arabic prefrabably Qatari

Inspite of that the woman made a case on her? I'm sure she must have complaint about something else. Keep us updated.

Hey I'm just saying what i read from the story:

"..and my friend to her surprise did not noticed that the toilet she had been was for male, she only found out about it because that was where the lady's accusation was coming from."

Colt you should try going into the ladies toilets sometimes they are much cleaner then the men's :P

Unlike you, I don't go into the ladies toilet, I ALWAYS uses the Men's :-P

By smoke• 9 Mar 2011 12:50

She should not have been checked in the first place...not by her alteast..there and then your friend should have told that lady to call the police and have the police check her.

By smoke• 9 Mar 2011 12:48

How is that the moral of the story?

Moral of the story is: Make sure you are in the ladies toilet and not men's.
