absolutely diabolical.

I found this item on the net for yer all to read....

" Department of Neurosciences, Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital, Saudi Arabia.

In Saudi Arabia the motor vehicle is the main means of transportation. Between 1971 and 1997; 564,762 people died or were injured in road traffic accidents, a figure equivalent to 3.5% of the total population in Saudi Arabia. During this period 66,914 people have died on the roads in Saudi Arabia due to road accidents, amounting to one person killed and four injured every hour. Over 65% of accidents occur because of vehicles travelling at excess speed and/or drivers disobeying traffic signals. Of deaths in Ministry of Health hospitals, 81% are due to road traffic accidents and 20% of their beds are occupied by traffic accidents victims. Also, 79.2% of patients admitted to Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital with spinal injuries has sustained their injuries as a result of a motor vehicle accident. We recommend compulsory use of safety seat belts in vehicles and the setting up of a new database to collect, store and analyse information relating to the road traffic accidents."

So, saying women are bad drivers doesnt really cut it , does it ?

Maybe some lady QL members will kill me for saying this, but the female brain is really not built for defensive driving. females can learn to drive, can excel in driving, can be cautious in driving, can be accident-free. But i have not heard of a female division of Formula One! (is there?) It's a male brain thing. Same reason why men are better than women in reading maps and navigation tools.

Whilst I say that, i wish the men would stop picking on us women when it comes to driving. Otherwise, all you will get are slashing remarks from slighted females, and thus start a nonsense gender war.

NONSENSE!

Don't know how to change tires, where to put the tire wrench, where to check the oil, radiator water and worse is they don't know how to wash the car. :D

Do men or women cause more auto accidents?

MALE drivers cause twice as many

accidents as female drivers, a

survey has found.

And the bigger the car's engine,

the greater the chance of accidents.

Contrary to popular belief, most

car accidents occur within five

kilometres of home, not while

people are holidaying.

The NRMA report Crashes:

Costs and Causes, released in

Sydney yesterday, examined infor-

mation received from over 4000

claims made to the insurer in New

South Wales during 1994, costing a

total of $1 billion in repair costs.

Acting general manager Greg

Anderson said the survey results

banished some myths.

The peak time for accidents was

3pm on weekdays and 4 per cent of

accident insurance claims related

to crashes in or near the claimant's

driveway.

The report also found men were

twice as likely to cause an accident

as women.

This could be partly explained by

the fact that men were more likely

to be behind the wheel of a car and

to drive further than women, Mr

Anderson said.

"What we do know is that there

is a direct correlation between

engine size and the likelihood of

being involved in a collision," he

said.

"The claim frequency of vehicles

with engines in excess of 5 litres is

twice as high as those with smaller

this is what i found on the internet when i searched for the same question, which i needed for an essay, and the link is http://ink.news.com.au/mercury /mathguys/articles/1995/950912 a1.htm

which when you think about it, makes more sense, with alcohol , macho presonality, and driving more often then women, and then you can always put even drugs in game, cell phones and so on...

tho women cause a lot of those too! ;)

Women drivers? They’re safer than men

Road risk analysis shatters stereotypes about traffic terrors

By Seth Borenstein

The Associated Press

updated 2:04 p.m. ET Jan. 20, 2007

WASHINGTON - That age-old stereotype about dangerous women drivers is shattered in a big new traffic analysis: Male drivers have a 77 percent higher risk of dying in a car accident than women, based on miles driven.

And the author of the research says he takes it to heart when he travels — his wife takes the wheel.

“I put a mitt in my mouth and ride shotgun,” said David Gerard, a Carnegie Mellon University researcher who co-authored a major new U.S. road risk analysis.

The study holds plenty of surprises.

The highway death rate is higher for cautious 82-year-old women than for risk-taking 16-year-old boys.

New England is the safest region for drivers — despite all those stories about crazy Boston drivers.

The safest passenger is a youngster strapped in a car seat and being driven during morning rush hour.

The findings are from Traffic STATS, a detailed and searchable new risk analysis of road fatality statistics by Carnegie Mellon for the American Automobile Association. Plans are to make the report public next week, but The Associated Press got an early look.

The analysis calculates that overall, about one death occurs for every 100 million passenger miles traveled. And it shows that some long-held assumptions about safety on U.S. highways don’t jibe with hard numbers. It lists the risk of road death by age, gender, type of vehicle, time of day and geographic region.

“We are finding comparisons that are surprising all the time,” said study co-author Paul Fischbeck, a Carnegie Mellon professor of social and decision sciences. “What is necessary now is to go through and do that second level of analysis to figure out why some of these things are true.”

Fragility and fatality

For example, those dangerous 82-year-old women are 60 percent more likely to die on the road than a 16-year-old boy because they are so frail, said Anne McCartt, a research official at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, who was not part of the study.

“It’s an issue not of risk-taking behavior, but of fragility,” McCartt said. The elderly are more likely to die when they are injured in an accident, she said, an explanation that Gerard and Fischbeck validate.

These elderly women have the nation’s highest road death risks even when they’re not driving — five times higher than the national average.

Right behind octogenarians in high risk are young male drivers, ages 16-23, with fatality rates four times higher than average.

That can be attributed to “inexperience and immaturity,” McCartt said.

Drivers aged 40 and 50 tie for the lowest risk of dying in an accident. But if you’re a male out at 2 a.m. Saturday on a motorcycle in the South, you may want to take out some more insurance.

The safest scenario

By combining a batch of data of all types, you can construct the safest possible scenario on the road: That would involve a 4-year-old girl in a van or school bus, stuck in a Wednesday morning rush hour in New England in February.

Of all the ages to be in a car, 4-year-olds have the lowest death risks — probably because they are in child car seats and their parents drive more carefully, Fischbeck said.

“They are really protected, they’re being driven around in times of day when it’s very safe (and often in minivans),” Fischbeck said. “It’s a win-win-win-win situation.”

As for men being more likely to die than women? McCartt and Fischbeck said men take more risks, speed more, drink and drive more.

“They do stupider things,” said Fischbeck, a former military pilot who has twin toddlers and a “totally unsafe” 1974 Volkswagen Thing.

Vans safer than cars

Fischbeck’s study didn’t get into specific car makes, but found larger vans to be the safest with a death rate less than half the national average for cars, and the drivers themselves played a role.

“It’s a combination of they’re safe and the people who drive them are dull,” Fischbeck said.

School buses, massive vehicles driven during normally safe hours, have a death rate that is one-50th that of average passenger vehicles.

But the death rate on motorcycles was nearly 32 times higher than for cars. One of the riskiest combinations in the database are men between ages 21 and 24 who drive motorcycles between midnight and 4 a.m. Their road fatality risk is 45,000 times higher than normal.

The most deadly hour is at 2 a.m., which is often when bars close and many deaths are alcohol-related, Fischbeck said.

The fewest deaths per mile driven are at 8 a.m., mostly because the roads are so clogged with traffic — and teenage drivers are in school, McCartt said.

That explains New England’s No. 1 ranking for lowest death risk on the road, she said.

Heavy traffic “makes it much more difficult for people to speed,” McCartt said.

Women Are Safer Drivers than MenThe highest number of deadly accidents: young men on motorcycles By Stefan Anitei, Science Editor

They say women are lousy drivers, but a new traffic analysis clearly revealed that men have a 77 % higher risk of dying in a car accident than women at the same driven distance.

The research about road fatality statistics was made at Carnegie Mellon University for the American Automobile Association.

The numbers are clear: one death toll for every 100 million passenger miles traveled and the research assessed the death risk on the road by age, gender, type of vehicle, time of day and geographic region. "We are finding comparisons that are surprising all the time," said co-author Paul Fischbeck, a Carnegie Mellon professor of social and decision sciences.

For example, the highway death rate is higher for cautious 82-year-old women than for risk-taking 16-year-old boys. "For example, those dangerous 82-year-old women are 60 % more likely to die on the road than a 16-year-old boy because they are so frail", said Anne McCartt, a research official at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. "The elderly are more likely to die when they are injured in an accident", she said.

Even when not driving, elderly women have the highest road death risks, five times more than the average.

But right behind the aged women, the higher risk belongs to young male drivers, ages 16-23, with a death toll four times bigger than the average, due to "inexperience and immaturity," McCartt said.

The lowest risk belonged to drivers aged 40 and 50.

The combination: male at 2 a.m. Saturday on a motorcycle in the South proved to be the most dangerous.

The safest combination was: a 4-year-old girl in a van or school bus, stuck in a Wednesday morning rush hour in New England in February. "Of all the ages to be in a car, 4-year-olds have the lowest death risks - probably because they are in child car seats and their parents drive more carefully", Fischbeck said. "They are really protected, they're being driven around in times of day when it's very safe (and often in minivans)," said Fischbeck.

Do men possess more chances than women of dying in a car accident?

"Men take more risks, speed more, drink and drive more."

"They do stupider things," said Fischbeck, a former military pilot.

The research revealed that larger vans were the safest vehicles, with a death toll less than half the car average, and the drivers themselves are a main factor. "It's a combination: they're safe and the people who drive them are dull," Fischbeck said.

School buses, massive vehicles during normally safe hours had a death rate of 1:50 (2 %) of the average for cars, while the death rate on motorcycles was about 32 times more increased than for cars.

An extremely dangerous combination was men aged 21 and 24 on motorcycles between midnight and 4 a.m.: their death risk on the road was 45,000 times higher than normal. "The most deadly hour is at 2 a.m., which is often when bars close and many deaths are alcohol-related," Fischbeck said.

"The fewest deaths per mile driven are at 8 a.m., mostly because the roads are so clogged with traffic - and teenage drivers are in school", McCartt said.

"That explains New England's No. 1 ranking for lowest death risk on the road," she said.

Heavy traffic "makes it much more difficult for people to speed," McCartt said.

Men are more than twice as likely to die in a car crash than women, consider the yearly statistics shown below. In fact, studies have shoiwn as many as 73 percent of all people killed in car accidents are male. Since record keeping began: male fatalities significantly outweigh female fatalities. However men and women do not drive the same number of miles under the same conditions- men do about 60-65% more driving than women. Studies show that woman take shorter trips and female drivers have a greater number of minor crashes than do men. However men are still 70% more likely to be in a serious crash.

Car Crash Stats:

Persons Killed, by Sex: Male, Female in 2006

Male Drivers Killed Female Drivers Killed

29,722 12,747

Total Both Sexes: 42,469

173 Drivers Unknown Sex Not Included

What accounts for this disparity?

Some researchers believe the explanation is to be found hormones related to aggessiveness, others put more emphasis on data such as the measurebly greater alcohol use among men while driving.

Why More Men Die in Accidents Than Women

Men Are 2.5 Times More Likely to Die from an Accident Than Are Women

close windowMen are 2.5 times more likely to die from an accident than are women. In the United States, 35,000 men die every year as the result of an accident. Between the ages of 1 and 44 years old, accidents are the biggest cause of death. In the 15 to 24 age group, there are over 4 men die for every woman that dies from an accident. But why do men have more accidents than women and also die from them? Much of it has to do with men involving themselves in riskier behavior than women, and here's why.

1. Alcohol - This is a big contributor to accidental deaths in men. Men binge drink much more than women do, so they're much more likely to get drunk and then do stupid things. 43% of pedestrians killed in the US every year are men who are drunk. Apparently, when they have a few beers, looking both ways before they cross the street is the last thing they think of.

2. Testosterone - Men have a lot of it and it's testosterone that makes men think things like "I can drive really fast and beat that other car to the stop sign", "Bungee jumping with a homemade bungee cord would be so awesome", or "Skateboarding down that big mountain drunk sounds cool!" As soon as men let their testosterone get the better of them, bad things usually happen.

3. The Peacock Syndrome - Men often have to compete for women's attention and, for some bizarre reason, they think women like men who do dangerous things. Really, most women look at them and think "What's wrong with him?" but men don't get that. So, just like the male peacock with the flashy feathers cavorting around to get attention, they get out their motorbikes and do wheelies. At 90 miles an hour. Without a helmet.

4.Men are Raised To Take Risks - Little girls are often told, "Be careful, you might get hurt", but little boys are usually allowed to do what they want. They're encouraged by parents and family members to be adventurous and try things - risk-taking builds character. So, by the time they're 25 years old, they're still thinking about how much fun it would be to skateboard down the street while being pulled by a car. Women, on the other hand, are thinking how much that will hurt when they hit a pole.

I always have third party insurance for my car bcoz I have full confidence in my driving. I believe women drive far better and safer than men.

maybe its the proportional to number of drivers on the road. majority are male drivers.

even in female drivers majority are housewives and are in no hurry as they are going to shopping or taking their kids to school, classes etc, so they are more careful while driving. Most accidents happen because of mistakes of rash drivers or when people are in a hurry, offcourse some accidents happen purely because of stupidity/oversmartness of drivers as the one in which sister "nadt" was involved in.

Recently while driving time two times accident happened to my car. Both were men and one was working in traffic dept itself. Second one purposely done by an egyptican man through bylane who drove fast from behind and hit my car.He was driving four wheeler hence he thought I have to stop for him in the middle of the road.I am also driving since last 8 years but absolutely according to the rules they taught me in the school. If All will follow the rules i think most of the accident can be avoided and if a person make accident due to his negligent let him take the car and get it repaired by himself by paying all stamp fees etc. Whey we should waste our valuable time and money for stamp.

no need to take this too much serious ..

regarding controlling the car behind u .. let me remind u one thing ..

YOU ARE NOT ALONE ON THE STREET ..

When i undergo the driving test i was about to fail bcuz i put the right signal and then turned to the right .. the Cops asked me "Did u looked behind u b4 u turn" I said why shud i, I already put the indicator ..

he answered me putting on the indicator doesn't mean that u own the street .. being a good driver means to AVOID others mistake too .. cuz u r not alone.

So for ur SAFETY u better take care about those who are even behind you. cuz if they hit u it's kinda ur mistake too ..

regarding going to work, Men for ur DEAD BRAIN INFORMATION are not moving 7 am EVERYDAY when they have to be at work at 7 .. it just happen SOMETIMES that we r late. Haven't u ever been late to work?? I doubt

For taking kids to school or extra activities, REALLY u have done a gr8 job .. now were r resting at home doing nothing .. Let me remind u, Paying for a driver to take my kids for extra activities is much more cheaper than to pay for repairing my wife's car

One more thing, re-read my post again and u will find that the first thing i mentioned is that the world statistics shows that MEN are more in accidents than WOMEN. But to let u know i'd rather meet an accident with a speeding guy than to meet it with a turtle woman cuz it really gets on my nerves and spoil my day.

You are the first on my list to have your driving license taken away, you are a real smarty pants, because you men are not in control of your cars, but especially young boys - they are brain dead when they put the key in the ignition. I just hired two drivers and I cand drive better than them any day, my brain works faster than theirs and I am in charge of my car not my car is in charge of me - see that's the difference between men and women. BAN THE BOYS every boy between 18 and because they are still BOYS at 40 from 41 onwards they will be allowed to drive in my country.

Ram

I don't have control of cars behind me that can't stop at red lights now do I. Seems you belong the brain dead too. For your brain dead information I go to work every day too as do many women on QL but instead of leaving at 7 am because I have to be at work at 7 am I leave at 6 am for a drive that would take me only 10 mins takes me 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour. its science and not stereotype read for Dr. Daniel Amen (brain SPEC expert) and you will see that there are minor differences between men and women.for

She drives a 1600cc car and always on the Fast Track. won't allow anybody to overtake her. she drives at the max. speed allowed and if Land cruiser guys wants to over take her they have to use the middle lane. quite scarry ;)

"smartbuddy"..i don't even want to reward that last post of yours with an answer...you are arrogant, condescending...simply an example of a chauvinistic male with very underdeveloped brain capacity....let us leave it at that.

^Thanks, now that u have given ur mind, maybe u can have a glass of water to drink and some to pour on ur overdeveloped brain(head i mean) to cool it down, relax, cool down, i never generalized neither did i start this topic!

There are women who drive better than men and there are men who are more stupid than women in driving at times.

And what's your definition of over careful smart buddy? Actually GOING the speed limit, rather then 250 kms an hour, not swerving in and out of lanes or flashing your brights at someone when you're tailgating them, or how about Not making a right turn from the far left lane? Is that too over careful for you?

Let's have alternate days driving..

One day for women only and the following for men only..

thats what i have experienced, well i also said this, seems u ignored/missed this point:"some women who are driving for a longtime are good enough so can't generalize everyone."

U said "because they are more careful", i say some are over-over-carefull, so much that their overcarefullness leads to trouble for others!

women are slow in reaction compared to men. u can notice that on turns, roundabouts etc, they are too slow to react but yeah practice makes them ok, some women who are driving for a longtime are good enough so can't generalize everyone.

aricle published in the internet,

"I have to say though, both from my own experience, and the testimony of a very large successful insurance company that women are the CAUSE of many more auto accidents than men, the men are just INVOLVED in the accidents CAUSED by the women. That's right, you do not have to be INVOLVED in the accident to have CAUSED it. Get what I'm saying?

Details:

My accidents were caused by women, who also just happened to be the drivers who knocked me off my motorbike. They were doing things that approx. 80-90% of women are guilty of at some point in their lives, make-up in the mirror on the way to work when running late (if people can't accept you for what you look like without make-up on, they're not worth risking your life or others' lives over), yelling at the kids in the back of the car in the mornings, driving them to school in the 4x4 over a distance that will only take 5 minutes to walk, talking on the phone, and I could go on, but I'm sure you get the idea.

I am by no means saying that men are guilt free, in fact I have seen some fantastic displays of idiocy from men as well as women, but the amount of insurance claims put in by men stating an uninvolved woman as the cause just tips the scales.

Did you know that driving just 5mph faster than normal (for most of you this means actually doing 30 in a 30 limit, not 25!), forces your sensory perception to improve just enough so that your brain doesn't turn off, meaning you don't end up feeling stupid for having one of those dumb low speed prangs because you stopped paying attention to what you were doing."

.... for banning women from driving. Let the men drive the kids to school, tuitions, extra-curricular activities. wife to work, do the grocery shopping, taking the family to the hospital, etc. etc., or spend big bucks hiring cabs and limousines!

I think if you are toooooooo careful...is the same like you are not. also if you are tooo smart...you will lose your mind., and this is why some of the scientist become crazy.

the 5 times u crashed it was all caused by men but do u know why???

bcuz u were driving so carefully that u r blocking almost the roads and MEN want to go to there work ..

To say the Truth... Men are more causing accidents on roads ALL OVER THE WORLD as i researched in the statistics of world accidents ...

But the prob. is as i just said .. ladies r too carefull to be so boring on the roads .. WHICH GETS ON OUR NERVE MAKE US MEET AN ACCIDENT WHILE WE R TRYING TO OVERTAKE THEM.

The men just want their wives to doshopping and drive kids to scholl. even after doing all these things perfectly .. they say the women driving is the reason for accidents..

How many women went and hit the person who is driving a bicycle , and people walking in the foot path.. just dont keep pointing women..

Stallion women get in more fenderbenders and mild accidents, like dents and scratches, men are more likely to write off a car when they get in a accident.

This is not Saudi Arabia and they have different reasons perhaps you want to open a topic on this too. Not to mention is makes just blind mad to listen to a bunch of chauvis who are actually glad to give the women cars to take the kids to school and do the shopping etc. etc. and drive them hom from their "Men's Night Out" and they are released from their duties. Women drive carefully... its not only the fault of women but also men who just sneak into any lines as they wish...without signalling...who knows abt the person who created this topic.. may be there is fault even on his side .. Thnk before pointing out one finger towards others , other four fingers are pointing towards you...

Beats me how a colony of 32 cars all driven by men on the way to Al Khor last week managed to crash into each other in the fog - wheras women drivers would have been driving more carefully it would not have happened.

If I remember rightly the driver who caused the big crash near the Gulf Cinema two days ago and demolished 7 cars - was a man, and did I read about two others in the newspaper who were fined for 1. knocking someone down and the 2. for driving his lorry into a car and injuring the driver.

Actually having had the opportunity to talk to one Publich Prosecutor he admitted that expats drive well generally.

On top of all that I have been crashed into 5 times and guess what it was all MEN who caused the accidents.

I am not a sexist but I have read it somewhere that the number of accidents caused by female drivers exceeds that of men...

I am not suggesting to ban women from driving but I wish they would speed up a little bit and take quicker turns ;)
