First edition of the PHOENIX GAMES witnesses fierce competition
The first-ever PHOENIX GAMES successfully concluded on Sunday at Aspire Zone and was organized by Erada Fitness and Diverse Sports. Moreover, it was the first functional fitness event of its kind to be held in Qatar.
The competition saw 200 athletes representing over 35 different nationalities display extremely high levels of physical fitness through a series of different workouts. The men’s competition was held on Friday and Saturday, while Sunday’s competition was exclusively for women with only female spectators allowed to enter.
Commenting on the success of the first edition of the PHOENIX GAMES, Khalid Nabina from Erada Fitness said, “I am extremely proud of how the competition went overall. We had an overwhelmingly positive response from the athletes and spectators alike.
"The level of fitness on display at the PHOENIX GAMES was on par with any large international functional fitness competition. We are so proud of the amazing community we have built in Qatar, and we look forward to this community growing, and to organizing more competitions in the coming years,” he added.
The turnout of the event exceeded expectations, with people from all backgrounds attending the competition. Spectators also enjoyed the Vendor’s Village, featuring some of the best Qatari cafes and restaurants, including Oakberry, Chop’d, Pie Shop, Icy Melon, Cherry Beans, SOCIETE, Cho Cho Mai, Mylk, KAVA, and Blended Café. Popular sporting goods and clothing outlets Force Sports, Quake, and Sports Corner was also present at the event.
Speaking about the event’s success, Ahmad Al Khanji from Diverse Sports stated, “The atmosphere at the PHOENIX GAMES was amazing, and the crowd seemed to enjoy every aspect of the event. This is the first event we have done since COVID-19, and it’s great to know that we are able to safely manage and hold sporting events after the pandemic.
"It was also an amazing feeling to know that this event was completely strategized and managed by Qatari companies. We thank the spectators for joining us, and we look forward to the future of the PHOENIX GAMES”.
Furthermore, prizes worth over 100,000QAR were distributed to the winners of the competition. The competition winners are as follows:
