Al Ghazali, Cherif and Al Khaldi crowned season's overall champions of Longines Hathab
The 4th edition of the Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour came to a successful conclusion yesterday, with Nasser Al Ghazali emerging as the overall Big Tour champion after accumulating a total of 196 points.
HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani attended the final event, the 12 round of the season-long event, and crowned the winners. He also honored the competition's sponsors.
Cyrine Cherif emerged the winner in the Medium Tour category with his 198 points, while Khalifa Abdullah Al Khaldi won the Small Tour class with a tally of 200 points.
Maryam Ahmed Al Semaitt and Asma Yasser Muhammad claimed the trophy in dressage while Hadi Mansour Al Shahwani and Cain Monty won in the Future Riders.
The Business Trading team won the Teams title after garnering 194 points throughout the season.
In the 12th and final round yesterday, Mubarak Yousuf Al Rumaihi guided Casal Des Forets to the Big Tour glory after clocking 41.61secs in what was a flawless routine. Season's champion Ghazali, who is also the overall winner of the inaugural edition in 2017-18, faltered in his aim at rounding up the season on a perfect note astride Quel Homme as he ended the round in the third position with his 41.29secs. Faleh Suwead Al Ajami astride Ulano finished second, clocking 43.44secs.
Rumaihi earned the QR14,000 top-prize for his effort, while Ajami got QR11,500 and Ghazali QR8,500.
In the final round of the Medium Tour, Cyrine, who has been very consistent with her performance, guided her chestnut stud Brennus Villelongue to a flawless routine with a time of 38.44secs in the Table A Two rounds against the clock, FEI Art. 273.3.3.1 | 120/135cm class to claim the QR 8,750 top-prize.
"I am very happy that all the hard work put in has resulted in success. Thanks to my coach and my team-mates for all their support throughout the season," Cyrine said.
Rashid Towaim Al Marri, astride Lamm Addiction Z, bagged the second spot and the QR7,000 prize money with a time of 39.03 seconds, while Jaber Rashid Al Amri secured the third spot and QR 5,250 with Canavaro De Muze (E.T.) with a time of 44.24 seconds (4 faults).
Alaa Al-Sultan (Magnum D' A Vena, 51.30 seconds, five faults, QR 3,500) and Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi (Cantaro 32, 48.02 seconds, eight faults, QR 2,450) completed the top five out of eight riders.
In the Small Tour, R Alqaqa Adel Nassar astride mount Fito bested the field, winning with a time of 38.77secs in the second round of Table A, Table A. Two rounds against the clock, FEI Art. 273.3.3.1 | 100/115cm class. Hussain Saeed Haidan, riding Viahipi D'Auzay, was second, clocking 39.43secs, while Hamad Ali Al Attiyah on Calgary VD Haterbeek Z finished third in 44.20secs.
Speaking about the competition, Ali Yousef Al Rumaihi, Event Director and Organizing Committee Member of Longines Hathab, applauded the riders for their outstanding performances, making the competition increasingly stronger every year.
"It has been an exciting season, and the, which concluded after 12 rounds, was very strong this year. The organizing committee will build on this year's strong points and learn from the challenges for future editions," Rumaihi said.
He noted that the most crucial benefit of holding this year's event was to improve participants' preparation and the level of competition between them. He expressed his hope that the next rounds would see even more competition at a higher level.
For his part, Omar Khaled Al Mannai, vice chairman of the organizing committee, said, "I am delighted with the success achieved in this year's edition, despite the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the current season. The organizational level of the tournament was remarkable, especially with the challenge posed by the Coronavirus pandemic."
Regarding his evaluation of the teams' event introduced at this year's tournament, Al Mannai said that the teams' championship was a great addition to the competition over the last three years. He noted that there was significant demand to participate in it.
