Al Mohannadi refutes FIFA allegations against him
Qatar Football Association (QFA) Vice-President Saoud Al Mohannadi said he hoped for a ‘full and fair’ review of his case after football world body FIFA recently called for a two-and-a-half year ban on him.
FIFA’s Ethics Committee recommended the ban last month, saying Al Mohannadi had refused to co-operate with an as-yet unnamed enquiry. However, it is understood to not concern Qatar’s 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Al Mohannadi dismissed FIFA’s claims via a statement on the QFA website.
“I’m confident that a full and fair review of the matter will confirm that I’ve co-operated extensively and candidly... with the Ethics Committee to the best of my ability,” he said.
Al Mohannadi is standing as a candidate for upcoming elections to FIFA's ruling council. He had been passed as eligible to stand by football's governing body. The vote, for the two Asian spots on the council, will take place later this month.
“The experience of this campaign, along with the endorsements I’ve received, leaves me more convinced than ever of the value I’ve to offer after a long and successful career in football administration,” he said in the statement. The QFA had earlier fully put its weight behind the Qatari official.
FIFA has recommended that Al Mohannadi be fined $20,400. FIFA’s adjudicatory chamber will decide on the outcome later.
