As of today, there are 860 days to go until the kick-off of the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

With its relentless efforts and exceptional planning, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has ensured the stadiums, as well as the necessary infrastructure, are ready well in advance to deliver an unforgettable tournament in 2022.

Just last month, SC officially unveiled the Education City Stadium, the third match-ready venue out of the eight stadiums of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Two more stadiums are set to be launched by the end of this year.

As the country accelerates toward the mega tournament fans across the world are reminded that the country is focused on providing an "unmatched fan experience."

"We want to make sure fans have a holistic experience in terms of transport and are able to watch more than one match per day," said Nasser Al Khater, CEO of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC, during a webinar hosted by the Swiss Business Council Qatar.

"There will be large fan zones in strategic locations, a vast range of activities, and the opportunity to walk between West Bay and Souq Waqif," Al Khater said in front of an audience of 21 chairpersons from business councils and chambers of commerce based in Qatar.

Al Khater confirmed that the tournament preparation continued amid ongoing challenges in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have reached 85 percent completion across our construction portfolio. Two more stadiums will be launched by the end of this year, followed by Lusail, Al Thumama, and Ras Abu Aboud in 2021. We will have at least a year between the completion of the stadiums and the beginning of the World Cup," Al Khater said.

In terms of the Education City Stadium launch, Al Khater said organizing a digital event was challenging, but that didn't deter the organizers.

"We wanted to be innovative and pay tribute to the frontline health workers. The live programs we produced in collaboration with Qatar Foundation and beIN SPORTS were a fitting tribute to everyone who has given so much to fight this dreadful virus," he highlighted.

Al Khater mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic would not affect the country's hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022 but Qatar would be ready for all eventualities.

Qatar will also be the stage for a pan-Arab tournament in December 2021. The tournament will serve as a crucial preparatory event for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, slated to open on November 21, 2022.

The 22-team invitational tournament for men’s national teams will be contested by Arab nations from Africa and Asia, according to SC.

Meanwhile, health authorities in Qatar continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
