Qatar Sports Club (Qatar SC) emerged winners of the HH the Amir Table Tennis Championship for the third time in a row and fourth in their history following their 3-1 victory over Al Sadd at the Abdullah bin Suhaim Hall yesterday.

Qatar SC, who won their first title in 2002, claimed the QR100,000 winners' prize plus the trophy while Al Sadd received the second-place silver medals and a financial award of QR60,000.

President of the Qatari and Arab Table Tennis Federations Khalil Ahmed Al Mohannadi, who is also First Vice President of the International and Asian Table Tennis Federations, crowned the winners in the presence of the First Vice-President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani, and the Vice President of Qatar SC Sheikh Suhaim bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani.

Qatar SC's head of table tennis team Khaled Al Kuwari also received the shield of general excellence for the team's success in winning the league title and achieving good results in the age groups competitions for the 2019-2020 season.

"I dedicate this achievement to the club's management, headed by His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al-Thani, who supported the team. The achievement is also dedicated to the head of the body, Khaled Al-Kuwari and members of the technical staff," Qatar SC captain Ahmed Khalil Al Muhannadi said.

En route the final, Qatar SC had emerged top of their group standings with six points, outperforming Al-Khor, Al-Gharafa and Al-Ahly, to advance to the semi-finals.

Under the leadership of its coach Walid Samir Abul-Fotouh, the club overcame the Al-Arabi hurdle by defeating it 3-1 in the semi-final match played on Saturday.

Al-Sadd, who also topped their group with the full score of 8 points, without any loss, overcame Al-Khor 3-0 in the semi-finals to book yesterday's clash with Qatar SC.

Qatar SC bounced back in the second game as its Slovenia-born player Boyan Tukic defeated Al-Sadd's Walid Nasser 3-0 (11 -1, 11-4, 11-2) to make the score 1-1.

The "Kings" continued to showcase their superior form in the third game with Mohammed Abdel Wahab overcoming Al Sadd's Ahmed Muthanna 3-1 (11-6, 11-9, 7-11, and 11-7) while in the fourth and final game, Tukic outlasted his Chinese opponent Hao, winning 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-9) as the club emphatically claimed the title.

QTTA President Khalil Al-Mohannadi congratulated Qatar SC on their historic win and expressed his gratitude for the successful completion of the tournament despite the COVID 19 pandemic.

"We are pleased to end the season successfully and without any issue. We took all the necessary precautionary measures during the tournament and tests were carried out on the players continuously every three days to ensure there was no problem. We appreciate the Ministry of Public Health and the Qatari Red Crescent for their tremendous support," he said.
