QNB Stars League - Week 4 highlights
The 2020-21 season QNB Stars League was back after a long break. The Week 4 matches were played on Saturday, October 17, Sunday, October 18, and Monday, October 19, at the Al Duhail, Al Khor, Al Ahli, Al Gharafa and Al Arabi Stadiums.
One of the six matches ended in a draw and a total of 11 goals were scored.
The highlight of the results was Al Arabi recording their first victory in this season’s league competition when they pulled off a lasp-gasp 2-1 win over Umm Salal.
Below are the highlights:
Al Duhail 2 vs Qatar SC 1
Date: October 17, 2020
Venue: Al Duhail Stadium
Al Duhail defeated Qatar SC 2-1 at the Al Duhail Stadium on Saturday.
Eduardo Rodrigues (Dudu) and Almoez Ali scored in the 12th and 39th minute (penalty) respectively for Al Duhail, while Abdulaziz Adel reduced the margin for Qatar SC in the 48th minute.
Reigning champions Al Duhail moved on to six points with their second victory, while Qatar SC remained on three points following their third defeat.
Al Khor 0 vs Al Sadd 0

Venue: Al Khor Stadium
Al Khor and Al Sadd played out a dramatic goalless draw at the Al Khor Stadium on Saturday.
Al Sadd dropped points for the first time this season. They have played one game less as their high-profile fixture against holders Al Duhail in Week 3 was postponed owing to both teams’ commitments in the 2020 AFC Champions League.
The Wolves have seven points. Xavi Hernandez’s wards had earlier beaten Al Kharaitiyat and Al Sailiya by an identical 5-1 margin in the first two weeks.
Al Ahli 2 vs Al Sailiya 0

Venue: Al Ahli Stadium
Al Ahli blanked Al Sailiya 2-0 at the Al Ahli Stadium on Sunday.
Hernan Perez (second minute) and Abdulrasheed Umaru (57th minute) scored for Al Ahli, who raised their points tally to 12 with an all-win record to be the only team to do so thus far in this season’s league competition.
Al Sailiya stood on four points from as many games.
Al Ahli’s earlier wins were against Al Wakrah (2-1), Al Arabi (2-0) and Al Khor (1-0) in that order.
Al Gharafa 2 vs Al Kharaitiyat 0

Venue: Al Gharafa Stadium
Al Gharafa defeated Al Kharaitiyat by two second-half goals at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Sunday.
Koo Ja-Cheol (67th minute) and Jonathan Kodjia (85th minute) scored the goals for Al Gharafa, who now have nine points. The Cheetahs had earlier beaten Qatar SC 2-0 and Al Arabi 2-1, but lost 1-3 to Al Rayyan.
Al Kharaitiyat remained on three points. The Thunders beat Qatar SC 2-1, but suffered defeat against Al Sadd (1-5) and Al Sailiya (0-2) too.
Ball possession was almost even in the match, where Al Gharafa had an upper hand in terms of the number of chances created. They made good use of the wings, especially in the second half, and were rewarded with the goals.
Al Arabi 2 vs Umm Salal 1

Al Arabi defeated Umm Salal 2-1 at the Al Arabi Stadium on Monday.
In fact, Al Arabi grabbed a famous victory, their first in this season’s league, from the brink of a draw with a last-gasp goal.
Abdulaziz Al Ansari (45+1) and Mehrdad Mohammadi (90+4) scored for Al Arabi, while Abdennour Belhocini pulled one back for Umm Salal in the 68th minute through a penalty.
Al Arabi moved on to four points, after being held 2-2 by Al Khor in Week 1, Al Arabi had lost 0-2 to Al Ahli and 1-2 to Al Gharafa.
Al Rayyan 1 vs Al Wakrah 0

Venue: Al Gharafa Stadium
Al Rayyan beat Al Wakrah 1-0 at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Monday.
Yohan Boli netted the all-important goal in the 49th minute as Al Rayyan, the previous season’s league runners-up, now have seven points.
Al Wakrah stood on six points. Al Rayyan were held 1-1 by Al Sailiya in their opener, but they put that defeat behind them by defeating Al Gharafa 3-1.
However, The Lions, coached by Uruguayan Diego Aguirre, lost 0-1 to Qatar SC in Week 3 after which the QNB Stars League took a break.
Al Wakrah, who upset reigning champions Al Duhail 1-0 in Week 2, had lost 1-2 to Al Ahli in their opener, but beat Umm Salal 2-0 in Week 3.
Not many opportunities came the teams’ way in a barren first half.
Al Sadd beat Al Duhail in QNB Stars League postponed match from Week 3
Al Sadd defeated Al Duhail 3-1 in a 2020-21 season QNB Stars League match postponed from Week 3 at the Al Duhail Stadium on Wednesday.
Nam Tae-Hee (22nd and 70th minutes), Guilherme Torres (38th minute) scored for Al Sadd.
Eduardo Rodriguez (Dudu) reduced the margin for Al Duhail in the 86th minute.
Al Sadd took their points tally to 10 to be placed second in the table, while holders Al Duhail, playing their first league match under French coach Sabri Lamouchi, stayed on six.
