Qatar wins Gulf Billiards and Snooker Championship as trio of QBSF-organized events concludes
Qatar emerged the overall winner as the GCC Billiards and Snooker Championship ended after seven days of enthralling action at the Al Messila Resort in Doha yesterday.
Qatar topped the overall standing after winning seven medals - four golds, one silver and two bronzes. The UAE came second with seven medals, one gold, four silvers and two bronzes, and Saudi Arabia was third with five medals - one gold, two silvers and two bronzes.
Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, at the tournament, organized by Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation (QBSF).
Qatar’s four gold medals came courtesy of Bashar Hussein in the billiards 9-Ball, the duo Majed and Bashar Hussein in the 9-Ball team competition, Ali Al Obaidly in the 6-Red, and the duo of Ali Al Obaidly and Ahmed Said in the snooker team competition.
The GCC Billiards and Snooker Championship rounded off a trio of back-to-back tournaments organized by QBSF in September. The series started with the Asian Snooker Championship held from September 12 to 16. It was then followed by the 6Red World Championship, which took place from September 17 to 21 before the Gulf tournament that was concluded yesterday.
While thanking Team Qatar for the laudable achievement, QBSF President Mohamed Mubarak al Ramzani said the team has done Qatar proud and that their accomplishment is further proof that Qatar’s unparalleled commitment to sports development is yielding the desired result.
“We very delighted with our team’s performance and the glory they’ve brought to our dear country. The achievement comes in line with Qatar’s vision and commitment to sports development and the dedication of the Qatari authorities to promoting sports globally. My heartfelt congratulations to the entire team on their success, and I believe this is just the beginning of greater things to come,” Ramzani said.
Meanwhile, QBSF executive committee member and the director of the Qatari national team Mohsen Bokshisha, has congratulated the Qatari team on winning the GCC title. He noted that the Qatari national team players proved their high abilities and fiercely defended their chances to win the title.
He thanked all the organizing committees for the three championships hosted by Qatar over the past weeks, pointing to the efficiency of Qatari cadres, which is one of the main factors for the success of any sporting event held in the country.
