Qatar's Khalil Al Mohannadi Elected President of Asian Table Tennis Union
Khalil Al Mohannadi was named President of the Asian Table Tennis Union at the Biennial General Meeting staged in Doha on Sunday on the sidelines of the 2021 Men's and Women's Asian Table Tennis Championships, currently being held at Lusail Hall.
He was elected unopposed ending the monopoly of the Eastern Continental countries on the position since the establishment of the Asian Union nearly five decades ago.
Current Deputy President of the International Table Tennis Federation, a member of the recently formed World Table Tennis Board and President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association Al Mohannadi became the first Arab and Qatari to head the Asian Table Tennis Union since its founding in 1972 and the sixth president of the AFC throughout its history.
Alongside Khalil Al Mohannadi the entire Executive Committee of the Asian Table Tennis Union was elected.
The new formation of the Union includes President: Khalil Al Mohannadi (QAT), Deputy Presidents Kim Taeksoo (KOR), Xu Xin (CHN), Secretary-General Afshin Badiee (IRI) and Treasurer Mohamed Baqir Sajad (OMA).
Al Mohannadi will take over the presidency of the Asian Union which includes 44 member associations: 8 East Asia, 10 Southeast Asia, 7 South Asia, 12 West Asia, and 7 Central Asia, during the election cycle from 2021-2025.
