QOC Secretary-General inaugurates IPC Athletics World Championships Exhibition
The Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain recently inaugurated the IPC Athletics World Championships Exhibition that celebrates the event held in 2015 in Doha, Qatar.
The exhibition, taking place at the headquarters of the Qatar Paralympic Committee (QPC), is in honour of all those who contributed to the success of the event, and it showcases photos from the opening and closing ceremonies, referees and volunteers' kits and the event's merchandise and sports equipment.
A total of 1226 athletes from 93 countries participated in the first-ever IPC Athletics World Championships in the Middle East, which was held from October 21-31, 2015.
The exhibition aims to shed light on all landmark achievements made by Team Qatar champions at regional and international levels, including the Olympics.
It also highlighted Qatar's effort in hosting the event that brought together such a vast number of athletes from several countries.
QPC Executive Director Ameer Al Mulla welcomed H.E Secretary General along with Team Qatar stars and their technical and administrative staff at the event.
Al Mulla appreciated the strategic and centre-stage roles of the QOC under the presidency of H.E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani in supporting and promoting sports for special needs athletes in the country. He noted that such support has led to several significant achievements and brought top honours and medals to the country at regional and Olympic levels. He said that the QPC would keep on producing top champions to compete in different sports.
"We are delighted with the visit of the QOC Secretary-General. Initiating this exhibition reflects the real desire of QPC to document all achievements, records and figures made at that memorable event hosted by Doha in 2015. I appreciate the QOC's centre-stage role that made our technical and administrative effort during the event impressive and possible. We believe that with this exhibition, our unparalleled success at the event will act as a lasting legacy for generations to come," Al Mulla said.
H.E QOC Secretary-General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain lauded the full support of all the country's institutions, sectors, and sports facilities to serve the QPC athletes. He also applauded the most recent achievements of Qatar's Abdulrahman Abdulqader, who claimed the bronze medal of men's F34 shot put in Tokyo.
QOC Secretary-General toured all the wings and sections of the exhibition. He was also briefed about all the medals, kits, equipment, tools, sports facilities and sport dresses of Team Qatar members, all QPC's technical devices, medical clinics and gyms.
