Early birds fly away with iPhone 7s at Ooredoo’s midnight event
Qatar’s wait for iPhone 7 is finally over.
Ooredoo, the country’s flagship telecom company, celebrated the launch of the new iPhone 7 by holding a special event at the Hotel Doha Sheraton at midnight on September 23.
Hundreds of lucky, tech-savvy people, cutting across all regions and ethnicity, joined hands to welcome the new technological marvel. The event, which began at 12am, continued into the wee hours of the morning.
The evening began with a 20-second countdown to midnight, the time when iPhone 7 was set to launch. Although the countdown faced some technical issues, all that was quickly forgotten as the first token number (to collect the phone) flashed on screen.
There were a number of counters set up outside Al Majlis Hall for issuance of tokens. Afterwards, they could wait inside the hall until their token numbers were called out.
It was refreshing to see so many people line up for the event, despite it being the graveyard shift for many.
Technology truly bridges the gap between people, aye?

to show off?
it will be flooded in the market after few days anyway...
it's beyond my understanding as well.
Well done to Ooredoo then ... :O)
I think the pre-orders began sometime back, but this was the first time it was actually being distributed. So the people who pre-ordered, they got their hands on the iPhone yesterday.
Heard Vodafone Qatar messed up with their bookings. All the more reason for Ooredoo to 'celebrate' the launch.
:-)
OK. I'm perhaps out of touch, but why would you want to queue up for such an event.. The phone has already been in the news and in the media for a few weeks ..
