Qatar becomes first GCC country to successfully conduct 5G trials

Qatar reached another technological landmark when they became the first country in the region to successfully conduct 5G technology trials.

The trails, undertaken by Ooredoo, attained the world’s fastest mobile data transfer of 35.46GB per second.

Ooredoo, in partnership with Huawei and Nokia, demonstrated its 5G capabilities on its ‘Supernet’ within Ooredoo’s 5G laboratory, reported The Peninsula.

The Qatari telecom provider completed trials for speed and latency.

However, it will still be some time before customers get to enjoy such speeds, as commercial 5G launch is still some time away.

5G-ready devices and technology are still unavailable anywhere in the world. But Ooredoo, through this technological achievement, has ensured that they will be in the forefront when the technology finally launches.

Ooredoo is getting ready to partner with Nokia and demonstrate the power of 5G by highlighting next-generation virtual reality and robotic applications.

The trial results is also expected to help in the development of 5G-ready equipment and devices.
