Catch the West Bay Bus and get a free Karwa smartcard
People using the free West Bay shuttle bus service will now get a Karwa smartcard free, which they can use while travelling in all Karwa buses.
The offer was intorduced on Sunday and will be available for commuters till March 10, after which QR10 will be charged for the card while the usage is free.
The service was launched by the Ministry of Transport early last year to reduce traffic snarls in crowded West Bay which is home to a large number of private and government establishments and offices.
The offer aims to encourage more people to use the shuttle bus.
Passengers using the smart card for travelling in West Bay shuttle buses will not be charged. All they need to do is tap the card on the validator inside while leaving the bus.
Commuters who get the smart card through West Bay shuttle buses can continue to use it on Karwa public buses after topping up at Karwa smartcard outlets in Doha and its suburbs, said the statement.
The shuttle service offers 12 buses seven days a week with a frequency of 15 minutes between 6am to midnight passing through 36 bus stops in West Bay.
The two routes known as blue line links West Bay with City Centre, Corniche and General Post Office while the red line links West Bay and City Centre, Al Bidda Street and Khalifa Stadium, stopping at all major hotels, offices and residential towers in West Bay.
The service open to citizens and expatriates also aims to reduce the number of private vehicles in West Bay by encouraging people to use shuttle buses. People can park their cars in nearby areas and take buses from one of the stops. [The Peninsula]
