Don't miss tonight's rare Blue Moon - just look up!

If you can handle the heat and humidity, step outside and marvel at the full moon tonight.

Its heavy, illuminated orb will trace a path right across the sky from horizon to horizon during the twilight and nighttime hours.

It will be shining in the reflected light of the Sun, as normal, and will appear yellow/white, as normal, yet we call it a blue moon because, it is the second full moon in a calendar month.

This year, July’s first full moon was on the 2nd.

Because there are 29.5 days between full moons (known as the lunar month), here we are again at full moon on 31st.

But apparently, the real reason it is called a Blue Moon is a bit more complicated. Read about that in The Guardian. [Image: Thasleem MK in the QL Flickr group]

Knor: it's a touchy subject. I called but he said he was already watching the moon whilst lying on the roof with his beloved Chin Tu Fat :0(

If only my Cuban shotputter was with me. We could gaze at the moon and then into each other's eyes.
