Possibility of Purchasing Health Insurance for Family Members on a Tourist Visa
I think I know that the answer to this is "No," but I must ask anyway, just in case there is an outside chance that someone knows about.
I may need to bring my wife and child to Doha on tourists visas four weeks before their RPs are granted. My own RP and ID are about three weeks away. Is it possible to purchase health insurance for my wife and son until they are covered under my sponsorship? If there is a delay in processing their RPs and IDs, we will make a quick trip to Dubai to reset the 30-day clock on their tourists visas. I thought I read somewhere here on QL that young children can receive medical care, even if they do not yet have their RP and ID.

Hi Dominic... but then if u r bringing them on a tourist visa, I reckon that the immigration authorities will require you to hold a return or onward ticket. And technically, since u r bringing them on a tourist visa, it can pretty much be considered as a 'vacation' (Tourist Visa should be more than enough to make your point with the insurance company). I guess it would have been a relocation had they already gotten their RP. Anyway I hope you managed to pay a visit to the Aster Clinic and got an idea about the fees that they charge. Also Mercure Grand was previously known as Sofitel, so I guess its the one and same area. Cheers Dominic! wishing u the best! hope your family can join u soon.
Hi, Chiggy. When I researched travel insurance, I was told that it will not cover a one-way trip to a permanent destination, since that doesn't constitute vacation travel but relocation. I'm temporarily in Musheireb off Wadi Musheireb Street. I see on a map that there is an Aster Clinic nearby. I will check with them about hypothetical fees. By the way -- though I should ask this in a separate thread -- is the Sofitel that many people talk about the Sofitel near Musheireb, and next to Mercure Grand and Doha Palace?
Hi Dominic. If you r planning to bring them on a tourist visa, wouldn't you be able to take a travel/tourist insurance? the likes of which cover, flight delays, mishandled baggage, emergency medical care while travelling. I believe the premium is calculated based on age of traveler and duration of stay abroad. it probably wont work out to much. it will be either cashless treatment or you pay upfront and then apply for a reimbursement. Of course, here's to hoping that your family will have a happy and illness free time in Doha
As for clinics, why don you try the Aster clinics. They have quite a few branches in Qatar
Thanks Qduck. I'd like to stop by a private clinic to get a good idea for the cost of a few situations. I should have some information in my notes on some some good clinics, but can you recommend a couple of clinics?
no worries, you can pay cash at the private clinics & no need of RP and ID
