The richest country in the world is Qatar

According to a recent study by the Global Finance Magazine, Qatar has been named as the world’s richest country.

With Qatar bagging the first spot, Luxembourg and Singapore fall on the second and third places respectively.

However, Qatar has not always been the wealthy country that we know of today. In the past, before the discovery of oil, Qatar depended vastly on fishing and pearl hunting as its primary sources of income.

When Japan introduced its cultured pearl on to the world market in the 1920s and 1930s, the pearling trade of Qatar suffered a huge downfall.

Yet, very fortunately for Qatar, it discovered oil in 1940 and since then it has embarked on a very successful journey towards development.

Now, Qatar is one of the countries that has the lowest tax rates in the world. It has a high standard of living and no income tax.

Below are the countries that made it to the top 10 in the study –

10- Australia

 9- Switzerland

 8- UAE

 7- USA

 6-Hong Kong

 5- Brunei

 4- Norway

 3-Singapore

 2- Luxembourg

 1- Qatar

Any thoughts?

You can be rich for having money but you cannot be rich if you do not have standards in the most important aspect that help develop the country, e.g., education. For example, a teacher or a lecturer dream to have a decent accommodation to rest properly. The writer of these lines dreams the same. Therefore, we can imagine what kind of generation Qatar would have in future!

Yes, it is the richest country in the world !!! LoL

Three of the world's smallest states have been named as the richest countries in a new study.

Qatar, Luxembourg and Singapore came top in the research which ranked countries by their wealth according to their gross domestic product.

Both the U.S. and Australia made the list's top ten but Britain was named the 23rd richest country behind states such as Ireland, Taiwan and Kuwait.

The data provided by the International Monetary Fund and compiled by the Global Finance Magazine, also took into account purchasing power parity, which analyses living costs and inflation rates.

Using this measure, gulf state Qatar came top of the list with a GDP in 2014 - 2015 of $105,091 (£67,497) per person.

GDP vs GDP per Capita

Yes USA is rich but nation is poor, kindly see the below article which makes you clear why Qatar us richest in the world since couple of years and even in 2015. Please also note unemployment factor in USA is 9% and in Qatar o.5 %.

Yes as per GPD per capita per sine Qatar is no one richest Country in the world. Pls also note the terms GDI and GDP which also very important to understand. GDP is also related to spending and GDI is related to earnings.

Article..........

For a lot of reasons, we need to measure our nation’s economic state and when trying to determine a nation’s economic performance, the term GDP is often encountered or used. GDP, which stands for Gross Domestic Product, is a measure describing the value of a countryís economy. Despite plenty of criticisms from respected authorities in economy, GDP is still the most popular method to indicate a country’s economic state.

The USA are rich with a GDP of almost US$ 15 trillion. And there are ten or eleven countries with a GDP of more than a US$ trillion. Qatar's GDP is US$ 300 billion.

I wonder what is meant by "rich". It can't be money. The USA produces 15 trillion dollars each year, Qatar maybe 320 billion. It can't be babies because Uganda has a higher growth rate of 3.24%. The growth rate of Qatar's population is fake anyway, because the temporary expatriates are counted. So, in which respect is Qatar the richest country?

Financially country might be rich, but people are poor. No one is happy( happy in the sense, no happiness is seen on faces) all are worried and stressed. No one has a job guarantee. Its everyone's dream to work for big organisation's but all big organisations keep firing employees with no prior notice. This huge firing or termination i haven't ever seen/heard in Dubai. According to me Dubai is the best place to live & work.
