And here is about the working timings.

Article 73

The maximum work hours are 48 hours per week or, eight hours per day during all months of the year, except during the Holy Month of Ramadan, during which it will be reduced to 36 hours per week or six hours daily. The time spent on transport between residence and work will not be calculated. Work hours shall include one or more intervals for prayers, meals and rest and shall not be less than one hour and not more than three hours. These periods shall not be calculated within duty timings. The employee shall not work continually for more than five hours, without rest.

For work that requires continuously without rest, a Ministerial Decision will be issued.

Here is the exact text from the labour law. Hope this helps.

Article 78

The employee is entitled to holidays every year with full salary as following:

1. Three days for Eid Al Fitr.

2. Three days for Eid Al Adha.

3. One day for Qatar Independence Day.

4. Three more days of casual leave decided upon by the employees.

If circumstances require an employee to work on these days, provisions of Article-74 of this law shall come into force.

Article 74

Employees may work additional hours exceeding duty timings prescribed in the previous article. The total work hours per day shall not exceed 10 hours. Employees may exceed these hours to prevent huge losses, accidents, maintenance or to remove effects caused by losses or accidents.

The employer shall pay for additional work hours, an amount not less than the basic salary of the employee, adding an increase of not less than 25 per cent of this salary.

Employees working between 9pm and 3am will be paid basic salary plus an incentive of 50 per cent of this salary, except those who work in shifts.

I don't work for a company based in Qatar, so it's not something I have to personally worry about. But I do feel sorry for those who are being taken advantage of by their employer and can't/wont do something about it, for whatever reasons.

Have you ever heard the expression: 'Either are you a chicken or a hawk.'

It all depends; How bad you need your employment?

How much you hate your employment?

Are you happy or unhappy with your employment?

The variable of the decision of quitting is all up to you.

I rather soar like a hawk for better hunting grounds. Instead of starving myself with oppression or labor abuses and take my chances out there in the market.

Unfortunately, not everyone would own good choices of employment in hand, either they are handcuff economically with geographical boundaries, laced with negative political motives of their own country idealism, vs international admittance of their own citizens abroad.

Lets not forget, the tribalism or religiously straps controlling your life or actions.

It became apparent during Ramadan and the last Eid, and now this Eid, that many companies don't give employees the correct amount of holiday, or compensate them accordingly with overtime pay or days in lieu.

But unfortunately most people either don't know their rights or are too scared of losing their job to report their company to the labour department.

Nice idea MD, but I'm reckoning that's just a slight translation error! If I remember correctly the Arabic versions are the official laws.

There is an interesting article in the Labor Law:

Article (75)

The worker shall be allowed of a weekly paid rest which shall not be less than twenty-four consecutive hours and Friday shall be the weekly rest day for all workers with the exception of the shift workers. If the circumstances of the work necessitate the employment of the worker during the rest day the worker shall be compensated for the rest day by another day, and shall be paid for working that day the wage payable to him for the ordinary weekly rest day or his basic wage plus an increase of not less than 150%.

So, if you work for 400 Riyals a day, you should get the 400 plus not less than 150 %, which would be 600 Riyals. Total for this extra working day therefore 1,000 Riyals. I guess none gets that right. Or?

Good morning. Yes - the holiday is given by the Emir himself. But sometimes, depending on where you work, they don't give you Eid days off, due to the amount of work and deadlines, but they would let you take them any other day - or add them to your off days.
