Rude Interviewees
Unbelievable! My wife is opening a beauty salon and has been advertising for beauticians, etc in Doha. She has arranged for around 10 interviews in the past week.
How many turned up on time? Only two.
How many called and said they would be late? None.
How many didn't turn up at all? Around half.
What is wrong with these people? Apart from being bad manners, nobody is going to be convinced that you want the job if you can't be bothered turning up on time or, even worse, not turning up at all without calling to explain why.
Another one of the many reasons why it is so diffuclt and frustrating to try and get any business off the ground in Doha.
Finally - after months of red tape and frustration, the salon opens on Sunday. For a sneak preview, search for "Nara Salon" on Facebook. There are pictures and info in there.
If you like what you see, please click on "Like" or recommend to a friend.
Thanks to all for your comments in this thread.
will give it a try :)
it's about 300 metres toward Al Saad from the Teyseer Petrol Station on Al Waab Street (opposite end and opposite side of Al Waab from Villagio).
The number is 44478008.
It's called Nara Salon.
DohaSteve, where is salon? it's not that i am going to apply for job..:):) but i might drop by as a client :)
TIG...;)
I understand the comment, but she did always ask what their expectations were and if they were within the range that she was willing to pay, the ladies were invited for interview.
Anyway, she has 6 girls (ladies) there now and (finally finally finally maybe) will be open in around 10 days.
The closer she gets to opening and the more staff she has in the place, the more calls she is getting from other ladies asking if she has openings.
Watch this space!
I have to agree here. I wouldn't go for an interview if i didn't know the salary range and work hours.
i think it is necessary to indicate at least range of salary. of course the candidate is wondering about the wage.. if she is already working she wants to know if it's worth it to take a day off to attend the interview, or not to bother in case the offered salary is the same or lower. Actually I think the employer must post the salary to avoid misunderstanding and wasting of his time and time of the candidate. I would be quite angry if I had to waste few hours (probably to escape from work) just to find out that I am offered half of my present salary.
I miss your witty insightful posts - Good luck with your business venture.
very rude
Azilana - 1,800 per month ONLY??? No wonder they don't turn up!!!
Include accomodation in the package if you sponsor them.
If they have own visa the salary expectation is higher but so are the risks for the employer.
most often than not, the current compensation package of a beauty salon workers(SPONSORED) working more than 10 hours a day are:
- economy ticket (round trip) to their country of origin AFTER 2 years (24 months) of employment.
- 30 days PAID LEAVE
- 1 day off
- and the current salary is about 1,800 a month or less
-
And those who have family or on transferable visas wants to know their salary, off days or holidays coz they want a better package.
If your wife is offering the same or lesser, maybe thats why the applicants don't show up coz they got a better offer.
If you want to hire the ones who have their own visas...you have to pay up more.
My opinion....
She will be flying to the Philippines next week to do interviews, but was hoping to get opened in time for Eid by finding ladies locally who were already on family or transferrable sponsorship. I have just placed another ad for her in the Classifieds to see if there is any better response this time.
Shapil - no, she is not advertising the salary. And it's always the first question she is asked. Not "where is the salon?" or "how many other people working there" or "how long have you been open" ....... it's always "how much are you paying and when are my holidays?".
It's not much wonder that these people can't get a job.
Hu Wan, thanks for your good wishes.
Hopefully this will be a success (eventually)
...
Sadly this is a malaise. You are an exception, since in my experience many employers do the same. They give interview dates and then are either late for the meeting or don't turn up..
Did you advertise the salary along with the job post..if so how much?
Huff !! it seems they don't need the job...Pheew !!
The best option is to engage an agency in thailand or phillipines, fly there interview candidates, get them visa and sponsor them ..
but at least they showed their true colors early. It would be disastrous if they were hired and showed their bad behaviour later on. Remember, a company or business is gauged by the kind of people they retain. Good luck on your venture! :)
Thisnis gulf
