Can anyone tell me wat's the maximum working hours required per day by Qatar Labor Law?

My company requires 10 hrs per day & 6 days per week.

there are companies who empossed this 10-hr/day working hrs. and 6-day/week too! They trapped you by telling them you signed the contract already. But if you feel violated, why don't you follow the above advises?

So, do you have also a break between that 10-hr?say..how many hours break between?

chiefsittingbull - what steven said about Uguirk also applies to you. You should be getting paid more!

As per my previous post, and tallg's post, you are entitled for an OT pay at 2 hrs/day x 6 days.

If you want your company to pay your OT services, then just follow the steps I enumerated above.

Yes, even if you have signed that contract... the Qatar Labor Law is more powerful than the contract that you've signed.

I work 10 hrs a day 6 days a week. I have sign the contract. anything more than that is considered as OT and I am happy with that too.

i talked to my manager regarding 10 hrs. He said, there won't be any overtime. The 10 hrs will be considered as normal hrs since i have already signed the contract.

I've just spoken to someone about this and apparently anything over 48 hours has to be counted as overtime and those extra hours should be paid accordingly. I believe there is also a condition about the number of days off you should have per hours worked.

So if the above is correct, it is fine for a company to work you more than 48 hours, as long as you're being paid overtime accordingly and given sufficient holiday.

Qatar Human Rights Office is open from 8am-2pm

Qatar Labour Office in Industrial Area is open 8am-1:30pm but when we reached there at 1pm the other day. They said they're only open til 11:30am.

So better go there in the morning, when you have to....

here's what you have to do:

1. write a letter to your company stating your complaint and mention Article 73 of the Qatar Labour Law, demanding your company to pay you with the OT work you've rendered.

2. wait for their reply. if they will not respond despite of you reminding them, its now time to go to the next step w/c is to file a complaint at the Qatar Labour Office in Street No. 13, Industrial Area.

There you will be given a form in Arabic. If you dont know how to read and write arabic, dont worry there's a shop nearby (i heard its called Al Attiya) anyway, you go there and asked them to read it to you in english so you could tell them what you need to write on the form. They will then type it in arabic. The fee ranges from 6-10qr.

3. go back to the Labour Office and submit the form. You will be given a sub peona (2 copies, 1 for you and 1 for your manager). yes, you will be the one to give it to your manager/HR personnel.

4. your company has the option to settle it with you amicably. if they refuse, tell them you will have to settle it at the labour dept through an arbiter.

5. if this happens, they say the process takes a week. i hope not more than that.

Good luck... I still have to start mine by next week...

Pray for me please....

Just this afternoon...

As per Qatar Labor Law, working hours per day is 8 hours, in excess of that, will be counted as overtime...

Even if you signed a contract saying: you have to work 9 hrs or more per day, the Qatar Labour Law overrides it.

Pls. contact Qatar HRC  at 4444012 or visit them...

for example in my company since our nature of work is different to

others, workers are required to work more than 48 hours but this is

compensated by giving them days off at the end.

cheers

60 hours week aren't uncommon out here, especially for people who are on high rotations (1 month on-1 month off, 8 weeks on-2 weeks off etc).

If you signed a contract agreeing to it I doubt there's anything you can do about it. If you didn't, then maybe it's worth talking to a lawyer. I don't know if there's a Qatar law about max hours though.

It depends on your contract...some companies work 40 hrs..some 48. But 10hrs/day is really too much. only International companies follow the rules.

most countries have a maximum hours law, and most can be over-ridden if you sign a contract saying you'll work more.
