Hi,

Dear Karam, when you had applied for the loan, then whoever was the staff who have processed the documents he must have given you the Calculation sheet in which the Total Amount + Interest + Insurance + Commission charges must have mentioned and possibly you might have missed to read that. Beside that whenever that Calculation sheet is prepared the staff not only shows it you but also consult with you that this is the duration, monthly installment, interest rate and amount, etc and at the end when you agree to all of that, he will take you signature on that sheet and then attached it with the Loan Documents.

Another thing about the staff, that might he had left the bank, because normally the DSA's they don't stay in a band for a long period or might be there is some other.

I was an employee of Doha Bank and it is not that I am defending the bank, as I have already left the bank, but actual I believe that Doha Bank have more clear procedure and almost no hidden charges. And believe me I am not defending the bank, its my experience especially compared to Commercial Bank.

Best thing I suggest you to go to the Branch where your account and loan is ask them 2 things. First your statement (it will show the charges details) and Second the copy of Calculation sheet. Your confusion will be cleared after that.

Thanks

Actually you can do something about it. Tell you branch manager that you are going to contact Qatar Central Bank, Banking Control Department. This will make them sort out things with you. If they still don't, go to Central Bank and put up your request with all the facts. You have good chances that your whole transaction is reversed.

While dealing with banks, if you find you can't get things resolved in an amicable way, you can always approach Central Bank. One of the foreign banks here refused to pay me money in USD denominations from my USD account and offered to pay in local currency. I did refer it to the Central bank which made my bank guys to beg for mercy in addition to allowing me to withdraw in USD. If you are right, there is a way to deal with such things. But, make sure that your case is a genuine one. You could be at mistake too. So measure twice, cut once.

My Friend,

The same thing happened with me too With IBQ-Bank, when i applied for an additional loan. Though the Bank is good compared to others in some aspects, I was not told clearly about the hidden charges. But the worst thing happened with me was, Even before signing the document, i asked the agent about the particulars mentioned in it, but he just passified me by saying that they were just for formalities... etc & i signed it.... The next day i was shocked to see the amount they had deducted along with the additional Loan.. I tried alot to cancel the new Loan... but you know how the bank plays in such things.... It took 3 weeks for me to come back from that shock... "Never Sign ANY document if you are not 100% clear with that". This is the lesson i learned from this incident... So no more victims.....

My friend,

You cant do anything now. Nobody will hear your complaints. The document signed by you during the procedure mention everything. These hidden charges are applicable. Read everything carefully and decide. That is the only option to avoid future problems. I have a personal load with 9.99% interest until march. Now I am paying 10.99% interest. They increased! As per the contract they can do this. Please keep silent and pay all. More vigil next time.. Best wishes!

You can always approach QCB for these kind of issues but before doing so be sure that it really was bank's mistake.

You can find the link in QCB website itself.

We went to the bank with a complaint about a service charge on our account. The employee told us we had to go to the branch where we opened our account. "But," we said, "you closed that branch!"

and sorry mate, i am not aware of any complaint mechanism from the regulator. But i doubt one would exist.

quite typical. Manager asks you to call main bracnch, main bracnh (quite pathetically) asks you to call employee and employee dosen't pick up the phone!

That's how 'ALL' banks in Doha are. If anyone finds one that isn't, let us know cos some of my banker friends too would be keen to open their accounts there =)

These are called "HIDDEN CHARGES', as they hide them while you apply for Loan. It is a business tactic and unfortunately you must have signed the document which mentions about it in a reference document that you are not aware. Legally you may not succeed in proving that you were not informed.

The best thing is to pay back the loan before schedule.
