There you go people, shared stories here. PAY YOUR LOANS before you leave. If you can't come back, make attempt to pay back or as saptakalran said...you may not be normal after a visit from the recovery agents.
One guy I know took loan from Oman and runaway and after 2 years he came to Qatar and he was caught in the airport and send back to Oman.
dingding is wrong..... a school teacher that I know had taken a loan from a bank here and went to india but decided not to come back. when she wrote to the bank saying she will pay back the money from india....the bank immediately notified the police here. The guarantor was her colleague from the same school. The bank contacted her and told her to repay. But the guarantor employed a lawyer here and filed for court protection...but had to run around quite a bit. Meanwhile the bank sent some guys to the borrowers house in India who told her that they are the recovery agents and have 'bought' the credit from the bank in doha .They did succeed in recovering the money from the teacher but he is not normal anymore!! the insurance recovery that dingding is talking about only works if the borrower is not living anymore.
dingding: Does this mean that anyone can take a loan and abscond. The only penalty will be a ban on returning to Qatar?
so you are the point of contact he gave so there is a chance you get couple of calls from the bank/police to know his whereabouts.
its good for you and him to arrange money to pay the loan to have peace of mind ..
No bank will go after guarantor / or go to homeland to recover this amount , all personal loans are secured by insurance companies and they will close this account. and banks use to put police complaint for official purpose only / recovery only from insurance companies.
im not a guarantor for his loan.. but he gave my mob no. to the bank
if they recover from india let them..but if they ask me to pay here will make me a problem
well if you are a guarantor then you need to repay the load in full. The other action from the bank depends on the amount of loan given, if its peanuts for them they wont bother to get it collected but ur cousin will be banned from entering G.C.C again and if the amount is huge then they will make your life hell and will make sure to recover it.
@MN, you have also mentioned 'major bank'. As Joker says all banks have collection agents in India, in some cases they are worse even than Mafia. Poor cousin after recovery from accident treatment let him not get admitted again for non-repayment of his qatar loan.. Take steps to find a solution..
bought cousin?!?! :O
You 'bought' your cousin (for how much)! In addition 'he have personnel loan' (for many of them?) B4 recovery he has made up his mind not to return, sounds fishy. Bank WILL and HAS TO take an action to recover the amount :-( either he or you will have to repay. If he has a Qatari passport it can be written off :-) Sell all your family investments back home and repay to avoid the severe lifetime consequences.
Bank can send "collection agents " at his home in India ....most of the banks are having tie-ups and collection setup in India and other countries + he will be blacklisted and wont be able to enter any GCC countries I guess.
Are you his "Guarantor" or did you co-sign the loan ?
