15000 Core Housing/Transport Allowance.......

Hello all QL members :)

There is an opportunity for me to work in Qatar. The monthly core allowance for housing/transport on offer is 15000. The recruiter has told me i can get a decent 2/3 bed apartment in a nice area for 10,000 - with 5000 enough for a family of 4 to live on. I will be with my wife and 2 young primary school children. Now - what is all your opinions on this from an accommodation and expense view as i know its expensive out there? Is what ive been told fairly accurate? I am only talking about about what 15000 can get you in Qatar - is a decent Villa even possible?

Thanks

Hi hotandsticky

15000 allowance is in ADDITION to my base salary (which will be 14000 to begin with) which is why i stressed it is only the allowance i am questioning. My total package you can say is 29000 a month. Now - back to the question - does 10000 get you a decent accomodation e.g. 3 bed ? and will 5000 be enough for living costs? My aim is to save as much base salary as possible! thanks!

Your post is confusing. Your housing/transport allowance is 15000. Is this in addition to a salary or inclusive of your salary? If it is inclusive you should ask the person who interviewed you to live on that. 5000QR enough for a family of 4 to live on for one month?

Whoever told you this must be on drugs and living someplace other than Qatar. Housing here is still a drain on many people. Still exhorbitantly expensive though it has stabilized. Most landlords still asking extortionate rates. What do they care if you are paying 60%-70% of your salary towards housing. Its still very sad situation.
