Ambassador Aware
According to a user of vonage, the Ambassador is aware of the Voice over IP issue, and the situation will be addressed.
I went yesterday to the QTel internet service director's office on Al-Sadd Street yesterday and was told that this was not a violation of terms of service. After asking a religious scholar I confirmed what that their unannounced changing of the service without the opportunity to cancel is indeed a violation of Islamic contract law; they owe us for service paid for since the blockage as well as sites to which we have subscribed which utilized this technology.
I also was told at the QTel office that the people to see about addressing this issue are Mustafa and Waleed on the 16th floor of the Qtel Building on the Corniche. If you haven't signed the petition for restoration of VoIP access you can at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/838444935. This really only targets U.S. citizens as it is addressed to the Ambassador. I suggest other nationalities create similar petitions.
I wonder if the people living so comfortably here would be able to sacrifice enough for a boycott of long-distance services for contacting their families and friends back home.
