Hi Everyone,
I am an Australian Enviro engineer and have found a job in Qatar.I have a Car Allowance of QR2000 per month and Accommodation Allowance of $15000 per month.

I would greatly appreciate if you can help me with following information:
1. Where do all the Aussies generally live in Doha?
2. Can I get a Aussie standard new or close to new 2
bed room apartment with parking for the allowance
3. Where do Aussie Kids go to primary school in Doha?
4. What car could I rent with the offered allowance?
5. Is it better to rent or buy a car if I can get no
interest loan for the purchase of a car?
6. Is Aussie Beer available and can it be legally
consumed?

Thanks and Kind regards

Warmly welcome from DOHA as a new member.

1. Where do all the Aussies generally live in Doha?

any conveniences place as individual interest

2. Can I get a Aussie standard new or close to new 2

bed room apartment with parking for the allowance

Sure, you will be happy with that. You can get a townhouse within compound with swimming pool and gym

3. Where do Aussie Kids go to primary school in Doha?

This is good question. British School is available. But it is expensive. I don't know the fees as I left my children in Sydney.

4. What car could I rent with the offered allowance?

Min is Mitsubishi Lancer 2009 model

5. Is it better to rent or buy a car if I can get no

interest loan for the purchase of a car?

This is depend on your contract. If the contract is 1 year or less better rent. If contract is more than 3 better buy.

6. Is Aussie Beer available and can it be legally

consumed?

Cheer up. BV is available in my house all the time.

You need a licence to buy.

Send me PM if you like to know more or any others.

1. Generally, there is alot of places that you can find here. Villas or even condos if you can use your allowance for it.

2. You should have no problem finding a decent condo or apartment of 2 rooms. And villas should be ok with your allowance given. Naturally, you will find a decent place to stay. Negotiate for a temp company decent accomodation to stay first say 2 or 3 months to spend time to locate an accomodation and other paperwork like driving license, VISA, banks...etc. Does your company offer one-off furniture allowance too?

3. There are some international schools here. I cannot offer much advice except that one of my friend send his two kids 3 and 5 to a local nursery; paid about QR4K total and they pack their own lunch too. Don't know why though.

4. If you are renting, negotiate for a year lease, you maybe able to secure one 1.6 to 2 litre car from local or budget or eurodollar over here. If you are going to stay longer, consider buying instead. If you can afford it go for a 4x4, at least you can go to the dunes and sea side over weekends. A bigger car is also more secure for you and your kids.

5. Someone else has replied.

6. With your allowance, should be alright to secure a license of about 10 or 20% of your monthly salary but purchase is from only one location in Qatar for self-consumption. Otherwise, visit the hotels or clubs but pay more. Personally I have not been to purchase but I am sure there are some but not all like Heineken, Carslberg, Tiger, Johnny walker, Coronas...depends on stock availability.

Hope these pointers helps.

Thanks and Kind regards
